Bedard for Glaus

Source: FoxSports.com

The Diamondbacks, moving aggressively to trade third baseman Troy Glaus, are in serious discussions with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles and an unidentified National League club, FOXSports.com has learned.

The Red Sox and Blue Jays are the front-runners for Glaus, according to an official from one of the interested clubs. The Sox, Jays and Orioles likely would move Glaus to first base, a position he has not played in his eight-year major-league career.

...

The Diamondbacks, trying to add pitching, believe they can unload Glaus without paying any of the $32.75 million that he is owed in the final three years of his contract, sources say.

The Jays offered second baseman Orlando Hudson for Glaus, and probably would be willing to part with right-hander Miguel Batista as well if they obtained another player in the deal.

The Diamondbacks have discussed left-hander Erik Bedard from the Orioles and a number of other options. It is not known which Red Sox players the D-Backs are targeting, but Arizona's new general manager, Josh Byrnes, previously was the Red Sox's assistant G.M. The Sox have been protective of their young pitching in trade discussions.

...

Glaus batted .258 with 37 homers and 97 RBIs in his first season with the Diamondbacks, appearing in 149 games. Friends of his believe that he might be even more productive in '06. Glaus was unable to work on his upper body last off-season while recovering from shoulder surgery.

If we get this, Tejada won't be going anywhere.

I hope the Jays get em'
because I wan't the Jays to go all the ways! Glaus would help them do that and the O's are just gonna take away numbers from him and make him lose each year.

heeey
I welcome anyone that can hit 30 homers in his sleep when he's healthy. I don't LOVE the idea of giving up Bedard, but Glaus is pretty damn good and there's a good chance Glaus will be much better than he is.

Ignore Rosenthal
He's just making this stuff up. The Os would never trade Bedard for Glaus -- Angelos hates injury-prone old guys and Flanagan loves pitching.

Rosenthal is trying to win the Gammons Award for fictional baseball writing.

re:
Glaus is 29 years old.

And Rosenthal didn't say, "The Orioles and Diamondbacks are definitely going to make a deal that will send Glaus to Baltimore and Erik Bedard to Arizona." He said there have been talks. Since Glaus is definitely on the market and the Orioles could use a power hitter, I'm sure there have been.

Glaus
This is a terrible idea. With Glaus we'll win 76 games instead of 74. Yipeee!

Glaus is someone that can hit enough to play first base without being embarrassing, signed for the next three years. How do you think teams become good? It's by acquiring and developing good players, and the O's are pretty awful at developing them, so acquiring is what you might have to settle for.

I think
That their ability to get this deal done may determine whether they tade Tejada, one way or the other. If they get Glaus, Tejada should be much happier, yet they'll have to trade Bedard for it.

They can't trade both to different teams.

Therefore, they will have to keep Tejada if they trade Glaus, because the Cubs are demanding Bedard in any trade that includes Prior.

Personally, I'd be glad to see Bedard traded either way, because I think he's getting a little old to be considered quite as promising as these teams think.

glaus for bedard
DO IT!

Sure, we'd only have 3 pitchers in the rotation, but we can worry about that later (apparently we're still pursuing Millwood).

I don't think there's any way this trade happens, but it would make me happy.

Trade Bedard
H's 27,a year older than Prior, he has yet to put in a decent season. Glaus would be the big bat that we need in the middle of the line up. Suck it up and sign Millwood. And Preston Wilson for good measure.

Re: O's should look at Wade Miller
His name has been previously mentioned. The Red sox cut him lose, after paying for shoulder surgery. Let's see if it worked. Miller has odd mechanics that make him prone to injury, but when he's on, he has good stuff. He's at least worth a cheap test drive.

Bedard
Not that I think you should let players influence player acquistion decision, but I suspect Tejada would pissed if the O's traded Bedard unless it was for better pitching.  His displeasure with the O's stems from their lack of pitching rather than the offense.  If the O's trade Bedard then it leaves it spot for Maine unless we acquire Millwood or some journymen free agent.

Preston Wilson!!!
What's the matter with Wilson. I'd gladly trade his 150 SO's for good defense, 25 HR's and 90+ rbi'S from LF.and How much could he cost?
