Yanks offer Bernie arbitration

Stay connected for news and updates

The Yankees have offered Bernie Williams salary arbitration and would like to bring him back in the Ruben Sierra role. The AP says that both sides might have the understanding that Bernie is going to decline, but unless he wants to retire, I don't see what Bernie thinks he's going to get anywhere else. No one's going to want him to start in the outfield because he's awful, and he doesn't hit enough anymore to be a DH. Being a veteran role player for the Yankees wouldn't be the worst way to end his career.

I'll be honest, I loathe Bernie Williams (not that he's a bad person or anything, but he's killed the Orioles over his career), but it would be kind of sad to see his career end flailing away and chasing fly balls he can't reach in Kansas City or something.
