Lopez to start Opening Day

From the Sun.

One year after seething over his assignment to the Orioles' bullpen, pitcher Rodrigo Lopez learned he has been named the Opening Day starter.

Manager Lee Mazzilli made the announcement, which was expected, before yesterday's 5-5 tie with the Boston Red Sox.

You know, good for him. Roddy was easily our best starter last season, and deserves at least this little token of appreciation for not being terrible.

James Baldwin is out of the rotation race, leaving (I think) Bruce Chen and Matt Riley to fight for the fifth spot. Baldwin has been sent to minor league camp and will start the season with Ottawa.

"Right now if they said they needed a starter, I'm not ready," he said. "I'll go down there and get my work in, and as soon as that happens, I'll be ready to roll."

What a nice man.
