Gameday Thread: Rockies at O's, 06/18

Game time is 7:05 on WJZ.

'Tis Byung-Hyun Kim, former Diamondback and Red Sock. Former dominant closer. It's odd to realize that just two years ago, Kim was still a pretty damn good pitcher. He fell off the earth last year and wound up a Colorado Rockie after a disastrous 2004. What a horrible fate.

But here's the thing: Kim is a talented pitcher and has been his old self the last two starts he's made, a couple of six inning affairs, both allowing two earned runs and striking out fifteen batters over the twelve innings. So I don't expect to just shell him tonight. I wish I could see the game, because I was looking forward to it. I'm a BK fan. But go ahead and beat him, Fat Pitcher.

Too bad Ponson didn't start Friday. He'll look extra rotund in the whites.

Just not on the O's. I'm writing this after he's been shelled tonight (isn't it good to see an early lead - where were the runs last night?). Kim has been a head case. He blew his arm out while following his own (over)training regimen. Maybe the Rockies have him back in line. Maybe the last two starts were the start of a turn around. I'm skeptical. I'm just glad to see the BK of 2003-2004 back tonight. Now we need the Pirates to pour it on and this could shape up to be a swell Saturday night.

I thought...

...it was a pretty good crowd tonight. Most were into the game. I took my kids, it was another Dugout Club night, and we finally saw then put one in "THE WIN COLUMN" as they say on the radio.

I didn't see last night's game, thank heavens, but some guy on the radio today was really ragging on that crowd for some reason.

Pirates still owe us another one tomorrow.

Orioles Win

Ponson looked good tonite.the bats woke up
Miggy & Sosa hit back to back Jacks.B-Rob
knocked in two along with Raffy & Surhoff
1 ea.Julio pitch well & the kid Chris Ray
pitched the ninth & looked good.An unusual
occurance Mora made all 3 outs in the big
inning fly first at bat & GIDP second at bat.

sosa is going in a big stretch

from now til about 10 games after the all star break, Sammy Sosa is going to be huge. Remember that he was a titan of baseball for seven years before he dropped off. Like Tino Martinez for the Yankees, Sosa will come up huge for the O's for a while... a ghost's last gasp.

Meanwhile, who else noticed that D. Newhan has been optioned to AAA with the return of Matos? The excuse of course is that they need Sal Fasano while Javy Lopez is out, but the question is, will they bring Newhan back?
