Um...
....YAAAAAAAY!!!!!

I'd like to say that the win was totally due to the fact that I recognized I was jinxing them by listening and turned off the radio in the middle of the sixth.

the tug of war
You know, this season is really a tug of war between the Old Birds and the New Birds. We've seen all the Old Bird ways of losing in the last few weeks -- no clutch hitting, weak pitching, bullpen blowups, bone head plays, bad calls leading to spiralling levels of bad play. I thought it was 3 years ago last night when we tanked to the Yankees.

And that kind of losing is infectious, and it can take over an entire season. But the New Bird attitude says, you know what? Fuck that, past is past, one game is one game, and this year, the Yankees blow. I mean, they are truly a bad team.

The 8th inning on was when the drama really hit. Tejada cranks up the crowd and ties the game, but then the Old Bird way reappears with failed hitting from Officer Pornstache and others, but then New Bird BJ slams the door with that ludicrously great Jeter strikeout, and then, of course, Captain Soul Patch embodies everything good in this team by taking it on his back and finishing it off.

Where we go next will depend on whether Mazz and company can keep the psychic baggage stowed and continually remind this team that the East can be taken this year, they've endured a hell of a shot from the Bosox winning streak, and are still only a half-game back. Go New Birds.

O's O's O's
I love it.

Palmeiro's hitting .270, Big-boi's hitting well, Matos is about to pop.

don't worry about this losing streak. It's just that. A losing streak. And bedard is almost back in town.

I don't see any losing streak,
C'mon guys, get 'em tonight, too.

Mussina Tonight
I forget where I saw it, but during Mussina's last appearance at the yard, some guy had a sign that said "Five years later, and you're still a traitor. How's that ring fit?"

I have a picture of it on my home computer, I'll go ahead and post it in the gameday thread when I get home.

Also, every game should end in a bottom of the tenth walk of shot by brian roberts.

You know there is something special about this team when my girlfriend, who hates watching sports, will sit and watch entire O's games with me.

Interesting tidbit in the Post
Mentions that Burnett is still on the market, and that he has stated he would be open to signing a long term deal with the O's.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/28/AR2005062801687.htmlamdenchat.com/

I would imagine this (coupled with the fact the the Red Sox have expressed interest) makes a trade much more likely.

saw this
and just posted it in a diary. I guess being able to sign Burnett is a plus, but I still think they'd be giving up too much to get him.

Schmuck's article on Mazzilli
In the Baltimore Sun today, Schmuck had an article which he says outright that Mazz won't be back next year.  Not sure that just because he wrote it, it's true.  What do you all think?

I don't have a big problem with Mazz like a lot of O's fans, I'm not big on the guy, but I don't think he's particularly bad either.  My biggest concern though is that Miller said a week or so ago that he would only return if Mazz came back.  I've become a huge believer in Miller, the guy has had nothing but good results as a pitching coach and definately don't want to lose him.

Personally, I would be bring Mazz back if for no other reason than to get Miller to come back.

I posted a diary on this...
Go take the poll. I thought it was a very interesting article.

Weather
Hey anyone in or very close to Baltimore, what's the weather been like today.  Is there going to be another delay or worse, possibly a postponement?

Looking out my big window
Looking out my window, it's cloudy, ut doesn't really look like rain.

I walked to the courthouse downtown a bit earlier, and it was hot and humid, and looked like there might be a chance of rain.  I'm saying the game goes tonight.
