Latest on the Burnett Trade

From the Washington Post:

Florida Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett would be receptive to signing a long-term contract with the Orioles if Baltimore made a strong push for the right-hander, according to his agent, though several sources say they have not yet engaged in any serious trade talks.

Sources confirmed Burnett is on the market despite the fact that Florida is still in contention in the National League East. One baseball source said the Boston Red Sox inquired about Burnett on Tuesday.

"After an extension wasn't signed in spring training, we knew this scenario was likely," said Darek Braunecker, Burnett's agent.

Baltimore is a destination Burnett would accept because his wife is from the area.

"We certainly would discuss the Orioles or other clubs that lie in that geographical region," Braunecker said.

I personally think that current rumors involve the Orioles paying way too steep a price for an oft-injured and still likely to be a free agent starter.

Regardless, I just wanted to give everyone the latest update.
