I was thinking about it...
Say we make a deal for A.J. Burnett and then we have to send someone to the bullpen (or the minors). Presumably, that person at this point has to be Sidney Ponson, because he's been awful in the rotation. But if he's in the bullpen, doesn't he kind of have the same role as Steve Kline (or that Kline was supposed to have, at least, had he been good), except as a righty instead of a lefty?
I mean, do we really need two fat guys who can't get anyone out taking on similar roles in the bullpen?
Maybe it's just an interesting symmetry:
Two guys, both champions of the buffet table, both highly overpaid considering what they've done for us, both come off the mound between innings (if they made it to the end of an inning) looking like they were pitching from a sauna, only one throws from the right and one throws from the left.
