I know the Nationals don't get a lot of love here, but this guy is a former O's prospect -- if you could call him a prospect as a 33rd round pick -- and he's going nuts in AAA-New Orleans this year.
Batting .392, gets on base 46.5% of the time and is slugging .585 (that's a 1.050 OPS). He's also got 34 doubles on the year. In his three games with Washington, he's 2-for-3 with a walk.
Obviously, the reasons to not have a "Free Rick Short" movement are:
A) He's 32 years old.
B) He doesn't hit for much power.
C) Rick Short = David Newhan
D) He's 32 years old.
Reasons for a "Free Rick Short" movement:
A) His OPS is 1.050, more than double...
B) Cristian Guzman's .514 OPS.
C) He's 32 years old. Give him a damn shot!
D) It's a feel-good story.
Anyone with me?
