Ray Miller Health Issues?

According to the The Baltimore Sun today, Pitching coach Ray Miller may not return next year due to health issues:

Pitching coach Ray Miller remains noncommittal about returning to the club in 2006.

Miller will undergo surgery after the season, a procedure that he's keeping private. He'll say only that it's "serious" and that he can't make any decisions about his professional future until it's completed.

He's also waiting to find out whether Perlozzo returns and if any changes are made in the front office. Jim Beattie and Mike Flanagan won't be under contract after October.

"It would depend on who the manager is, and if they even want me," Miller said. "I don't even know who the GM is going to be."

Well, Ray says he wants this to be private, so I won't speculate on what the problem is, but here's hoping whether he is in an Orioles uniform or not next year (and I hope he is), he has many years of good health ahead of him. Best of luck Ray!

He was off for over a week....
Right about the time they let Maz go. The Pitching coach from Ottawa was there...and Jim Hunter let it slip that Ray was in Minnesota      ( Mayo clinic ? ) during a tv broadcast for a "medical consultation".Then a week or so later I saw the first report on the Orioles.com site that he was planning to have off season surgery, and may not return.

I hope and wish Ray Godspeed, and hope that the front office sees fit to have him back if he wishes to join the team next year.If not, he surely deserves a spot in the Orioles Hall of Fame..and will go down as one of the best pitching coaches in recent history.

I do know, a little off topic, that Leo Mazzone and Sam P. are best friends, and Leo has always said that should Sammy get a full time gig in the ML, that his dream job would be to coach the pitchers for Sam...so look out for that possibility this winter also.

re:
I'd be sad to see Ray Miller leave since he's done his very, very best to make lemonade out of lemons. Hope he's back next year if he wants to be.
Avoid the rhubarb, hurl it whitewash and have 'em wearing the old golden sombrero! Crackerjack, boys, crackerjack!
