Time to sit back and watch the youngsters try and establish themselves, and some of the older fellas play for one final time.
I don't know about you guys, but this has been one crazy m-fer of a year.
From the middle of the winter, we have had one of the most topsy turvey baseball years I can remember, and I've been watching this game since Maris hit 61!
Winter brought us Sidney's drunken Christmas Day follies, followed by the Sosa signing.
Then came Majewski's season ending shoulder surgery, and more Sidney follies, this time drunk driving in Florida during spring training.
We started on a great note, with RoLo pitching lights out to beat Zito on opening day, the early season sweep of those dreaded Skanks, and a whole lot of winning series. I don't think we lost 2 in a row until May...and by the 15th of June had a 4 or 5 game lead and were 14 games over .500!
But it wouldn't, just like any other year for the past 8, last. Injuries became the norm, with Bedard, Javy, Mora, Brob, Matos, Sammy, BJ, and Bigbie all missing significant starts during the spring and early summer.
Then comes Raffygate. Maz gets fired. Sidney gets caught DUI once more. We lose 65% of our games over a three month span, after holding on to first for 63 days!
Man, this is exhausting. Just thinking about all that has happened this season gives me an instant migraine.
Let's just hope that the season ends up more like it started and less like it appears it will. We still have a chance, especially against the Skanks, to make a difference in this race.
Here's to all of us..loyal and frustrated O's fans. Wde endure, and we still root, post, complain, and pontificate. Hope springs eternal...and next year certainly will not be as "entertaining" as this year was. Or, maybe it will be, but in a more positive way!
