Yeah, so Gary freakin' Matthews Jr. has landed a $50M/5-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, Incorporated, etc.

When you combine Matthews, Soriano and Pierre so far, the outlook for what Lee will reap and Baltimore's willingness to shell it out ain't pretty.  At this point I'm more concerned about duration than anything.  Players love these 5-to-8 year deals, but they can be very bad for a team's future, even if they are what it takes to be competitive right now.  Only the richest teams can eat the worst ends of bad contracts.
