Today's WBC Games (Thus Far)
Dominican Republic 11, Venezuela 5
This was a hell of a lot of fun. The fans were outstanding, and finally made the whole thing seem worthwhile to me. The players were also hyped up so that was fun. Ortiz and Beltre hit a couple homers each, Ortiz's second was an absolute bomb. Tejada looked terrible at the plate against Santana and Carlos Zambrano, and nearly hurt himself in the field. The Dominicans are going to be tough for anyone to beat.
USA 2, Mexico 0
Pretty good game, probably closer than most people would expect. I thought Roddy Lopez looked good for Mexico, so that's something.
Korea (3-0) and Japan (2-1) advanced out of Pool A.
The O's lost to the Red Sox, 10-6. Jay Gibbons homered in the fourth inning off of Rudy Seanez and Corey Patterson went 2-for-3 with a double. Brandon Fahey went 3-for-3 with a double starting at shortstop.

Ramon Hernandez did nothing as well, going 0-3 including a GIDP. However both Hernandez and Tejada came close to getting injured...with Hernandez getting hit by a pitch and Tejada falling hard on his knee while making a throw to first. Daniel Cabrera was declared ineligible to pitch in the opener because he threw in the recent exhibition game for the Orioles. So not a good game for the Orioles involved.
On the other hand, Rodrigo Lopez looked pretty good versus a tough Team USA lineup. He gave up only one earned run in 4 innings pitched on a solo HR by Derek Lee. Apparently Bedard did well tonight also. Tomorrow Bruce Chen will start for Panama against Cuba. It's kind of funny that 3 of our starters are the #1 starter in the rotations of their respective teams.

That is waaay ironic....
I guess only time will tell!
Really???
Maybe I've been sniffing glue and haven't learned from the O's previous let downs, but I think our rotation is going to be pretty strong and has a very large upside. I think it's our outfield and our bullpen that is weak. I would love for the O's to find a way to get Lopez out of the rotation and into the pen as he's always seemed much more effective out of the pen. Of course that would leave us one starter short.

I think the board has ....
Now, when it's all said and done, we may have as much potential to be among the best starting fives in baseball, but we're all so freakin' snakebit after the last eight horrifyingly bad years that no one has a ton of confidence in the board numbers that SC has gathered the past few weeks.
I guess...we'll see soon enough.
