Javy to Boston official

Javy Lopez has been traded to the Red Sox for a player to be named, which I suppose is going to end up being Adam Stern. Well...bye, Javy. We signed Chris Widger to take Lopez's roster spot, and I've always liked Widger despite that he stinks.

Javy still bitching but now to the Boston media
"None of the things they told me happened since Day One," Lopez told Boston reporters. "They told me I was going to be the first baseman since they signed Ramon [Hernandez], among other things. They told me I might get an extension, I never got it. They told me I might catch often, once in awhile. Until Rodrigo lost seven in a row, then I started catching Rodrigo once a week. Never got to play first base after playing first base almost every day in spring training. All that happened at the same time and really frustrated me."

Javy, you would have played first if you were any good at fielding.  You stunk, get over it.  I wonder if he'll continue to complain about playing time once Varitek gets off the DL.

Javy's debut

Javy pinch-hit in the third for Mirabelli, who twisted an ankle and is expected to miss several days. (Boy, life is rough for catchers in Boston). He went 0-4, including a strikeout and GIDP.

Then he pulled an asshole move and took a swipe at Orioles pitching:

...He did enjoy catching Schilling.

"It's so easy. He's a Cy Young winner, a veteran. It's a totally different feeling," he said. "I feel like when I was in Atlanta catching all those great guys."

Um, fuck you, Javy. The mark of a good catcher is that they can make young pitchers better. Are you saying you can only catch "great" pitchers?

Our pitchers...
were mostly better last year when Javy was catching them everyday. Roddy Lopez improved tremendously this year when Javy was the reciever. So is it Ramon Hernandez's fault our pitchers stink this year? Or maybe Javy is pretty much right in what he is diplomatically implying; our pitchers stink. Don't shoot the messanger.

And I don't think he is saying he can only catch "great" pitchers, only that it makes his job easier, which seems hard to argue. I would imagine it is a lot easier to catch a guy who can put the ball right where you call for it.

As far as badmouthing the team that traded you, this is pretty mild stuff. I don't understand all the hostility being directed at Lopez. He had every right to complain, and if I were him I'd be glad to be off one of the worse teams in MLB too.

And we have every right to bitch about him
He talks about how the O's didn't live up to his expectations, but did he ever live up to ours? We signed him after he hit .328 with 43 HRs, 109 RBIs, and slugged .687. He never came close to that while he was here, gaining a reputation of not working very hard and not being friendly in the clubhouse. He complained about catching too much and not catching enough. His defense sucked, and just 3 years after that great season he left Baltimore with a measley .261 average and 8 homers. Up yours, Javy. You suck and were a waste of money. Crybaby.

Javy
did fine in his first season with us but declined badly after that.  He was never terrible and I wasn't expected another .328, 43 HR season, but I was hoping he would maintain his 2004 season.  He didn't, I'm tired of his complaining and I hope the fans boo the shit of him when he comes back.

yeah!
What this dude said!

If...
you expected Javy to repeat a fluke career season for 3 years, then you had unrealistic expectations. His first two years he was about what I expected. This year he wasn't any good, but then he wasn't playing much either. All I'm saying is that the reaction of many Os fans here is way out of proportion to anything Lopez might have said or none.

Of course not
I didn't expect him to repeat his walk year, but I don't think Javy lived up to anyone's expectations.

i like him
he had a great year at AA and was terrific in the WBC. His 1st year up at AAA is not going great (he's hitting like, .260 or something) and his couple dozen appearances in The Show he hasn't hit well either. BUT he made some spectacular catches for the  Sox before he got sent down again this year and he has very good speed.
Plus, he's kinda funny.
Once he gets his offense together at the higher level, he'll be good. He's known as a guy with great work ethic so maybe he'll come around soon.

He'll be fourth outfielder, late inning defensive replacement.
