I agree
but Hafner should win the MVP in the AL and Ryan Howard in the NL.

yes on howard...
gotta be if the phils win get the wild card...would they then just end up playing the mest in the forst round, though?

by jq higgins on Sep 5, 2006 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

No
Phillies and Mets can't play in the first round, they're in the same division.  The Mets would play the winner of the NL Worst and the Phils would play the Central, if they got the Wild Card.

DID YOU KNOW
Carlos Zambrano has 100 walks???  I was ready to give him the nod, but wtf???

And I know right, re: Adam Laroche.  WTF?????

by Awesome Mike Awesome on Sep 4, 2006 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Eh
Walks are OK if you can work out of them and not let one lead to another every time.  That's the difference between Zambrano and, say, Cabrera.

by punkrawka on Sep 4, 2006 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I can deal with
100 walks when you have an ERA of 3.5 and 188 Ks (tied for 1st in the NL).  Zambrano is walking a lot of guys but it's at least mitigated by his huge number of Ks.  And in the end he's doing a good job of preventing tons of runs from scoring as indicated by his ERA.  Since Ws are partially out of a pitcher's control, preventing runs is about the best a pitcher can do in helping a team win.

100 walks
is not going to support an ERA of 3.5 for very long.    It's a fucken lot of walks.  Russ Ortiz had some low ERAs too.

by Awesome Mike Awesome on Sep 5, 2006 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

AMA is right
I guess if Zambrano can strike out as many people as he has while dominanting with a 212 BAA he could keep a 3.5 ERA, but I have a feeling he cant. I think he will gain better control again and be better next year.

by larry bigbie on Sep 5, 2006 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

AMA....
The only permitted mention of the above mentioned so-called pitcher in your comments must first include the word "fuckin" Russ Ortiz. You must also state in your fuckin Russ Ortiz post how much you hate the so-called pitcher. I believe the sub comittee has ruled on this..please abide by their rulings.

If the Cubbies wanted to hand over the Z man, I'd be happy to take him and his 100 walks.  He may turn into the next fuckin Russ Ortiz but I'm willing to take that gamble.

Which has nothing to do
with whether or not he's the Cy Young winner or not.   I'd fucken take him too.  100 walks are bad pitching though.

Sorry if I went off topic but I wasn't speaking to that issue.  You said "100 walks are not 'ok'" and my response is that there are mitigating factors.  Like any sane human being, I don't want to see a pitcher give up 100 walks but his stuff his good enough that it's not problem as evidenced by Ks, WHIP, and ERA.

Speaking of awards
What do you think is harder?

56 game streak
batting .400
Triple crown

My vote goes to triple crown

Mama, I just want you to know, loving you is like food to my soul.

by Stacey on Sep 5, 2006 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Well yes you're correct
No they aren't awards they're records. But $20 says if you Bat .400 you're winning an award or hit for the triple crown you're getting an award. So call it what you will either way all 3 hard to do.
