Rhodes signs with Seattle

From ESPN:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2743892

The Mariners signed him to a one-year minor league deal worth $1 million.

Star-divide

Now, for some reason, I've always liked Arthur Rhodes.  He was never an effective starter, but once he shifted to the bullpen, he became pretty damn good.  In '97, he pitched 95 innings, had 102 strikeouts, won 10 games, and had an ERA of 3.02.  He was definitely a HUGE part of that last, good season.

He's been a bit of a journeyman since, having only one stellar year (2001, with Seattle).  Now he's 36, and he's going to try and help a bullpen that lost a very good set-up man.

Best of luck to you, Rhodes.  I'm pulling for ya.

Unless you're playing my Birds.  Then you're going down.

I, too, have always liked Rhodes. Probably my favorite Rhodes memory was when he was with Seattle and Omar Vizquel complained about Arthur's shiny earring, and Rhodes pretty much responded as though he wanted to punch Vizquel in the nose, which seems to be a fairly common desire among baseball players.

Remember Allan Mills?
He and Rhodes used to drive me crazy sometimes with their erratic bullpen-ness in the late 90s. Then again, Rhodes was actually useful much of the time. Mills? Not so much.

Mills
He sucked, sure, but he totally decked a Yankee and that means Alan Mills can party with me forever.

oh, man...
since allan mills, i have called that tyoe of stache a "millstache" and continue to do so, although rhodes also sported a similar one.  mills was okay, i thought.

i looked up his stats
They're not great, but not terrible. He was actually slightly above average. Career ERA+ of 108. I remembered him being worse than that. But then again, I guess the FO would've given him like a three-year deal this past offseason.

millsy
i have so many fond memories of the mills/rhodes tandem.  of course, that was back when i was MUCH younger, and i could get excited about the "millstache" coming in.

now, i have to think, "man, walker's career ERA against Kansas City is 7.91, and he's SO gonna blow this lead."  i can't just enjoy a game.

ah, to be young again...
