Congrats to Cal!

For those of you living under a rock, Cal Ripken the pride of Aberdeen was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with the third highest vote percentage ever today (98.5%).

Despite the sorry state of our beloved franchise, today is a day to be proud to be an Oriole fan. Congrats to Cal for earning baseball's ultimate recognition. It is an honor you richly deserve.

Here, here!
Congratulations are in order.  I've argued Cal's rank in the "Top Orioles of All Time", but there is no argument against his belonging in the Hall of Fame...and on the first ballot at that.  This is a great day for the ballclub, the City of Baltimore, the State of Maryland and Orioles fans everywhere.

Is it July yet?
I know a bunch of people from the board are planning to stay behind at the Yard the day Cal gets inducted, but after all this talk the past few days and then seeing his 98.5% of the vote, there's no way I'm going to stay out of Cooperstown this summer.

Congrats, Iron Man!

A lot of Baltimore is bathed in purple light
It's the playoffs for crying out loud! I don't think it takes away from Cal at all.

re:
Understood. Everyone knows Cal is the man.

But Lord knows it's good to have one reasonably decent franchise in town. On every trip I make to Baltimore I see predominately purple, summers included. It sure looks like a football town to me. Big Pete is off in the breakdown lane trying to do whatever it is he thinks will fix the franchise.

I was at Hooters last night
(the only reason to actually go to the inner harbor, unless you need a new "don't bother me, I'm crabby shirt") and EVERYONE was wearing purple. It was very exciting. I said to my friend, "Imagine it was October and all these people were wearing orange?" He said, "Dream on." But it could happen. Maybe when I'm a senior citizen.
