the angels angels of anaheim just traded orlando cabrera for jon garland. miggi plus cash for ervin santana and [blank]? i see it coming...do you? (and while we scarcely need another young and quirky pitcher, i think ervin santana has already had more success than cabrera and seemed to pull it together by the end of the year last year)
what are you made of mr. mcphail?
update (zk): Here's a link with the same idea being floated:
In a move that could portend a bigger deal, the Angels today traded Gold Glove-winning shortstop Orlando Cabrera and cash to the Chicago White Sox for veteran right-hander Jon Garland. The Angels' rotation appeared set with John Lackey, Kelvim Escobar, Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders and Ervin Santana.
But the addition of Garland, a 28-year-old who went 10-13 with a 4.23 earned run average last season, gives the Angels a rotation surplus that will enable them to deal a young pitcher such as Santana, Weaver or Saunders for a slugger such as Florida third baseman Miguel Cabrera or Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada.
[ed note #2: Mike Lowell has agreed to a deal with the Red Sox, according to sources. 3 years, $37.5M. Miggy's stock rises a little further...]
