BLOW THIS TEAM THE HELL UP, ANDY

by dan the man on Dec 6, 2007 9:26 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

not saying this has been put out there...
but am i the only one thingking that at least for the dodgers and angels, o's could send a beadard AND tejada package and come away w/ an approximation of the marlins score from the tigers?
So, I said, uh, lama: how about a little something for the effort?

I was thinking about this last night.
Hell we might even be able to do a little better.

Something like
Kemp, Loney, Broxton & Kershaw?   A fan can dream can't he?

Broxton
LA doesn't want to give him up now.

dream
These kinds of deals are partly what's holding up the Santana deals. Teams are unwilling to part with their cheap future. It's compounded by the fact that they also face a big contract negotiation. Watching the Santana haggling makes me think Bedard will also stay and the O's trade him for less next year or in July (assuming he doesn't realize he wants to stay - ha). If so, hope 2008 is a banner year and someone is really desperate in July or next off season.

core players
anybody who gets woberts gets gibbons
anybody who gets bedard gets baez
anybody who gets tejada gets milllaaahhh

that's how Os should unload their shitty players

really no other way to do it.

sure there is
you call them into a meeting at OPACY, plant coke or dope in their car while they're inside, tip off the cops or DEA and voila! let the justice system & press take it from there. this ain't rocket science.

oh
and we should keep M'lar (as he's known in Pigtown).  He's cheap and he'll be great at teaching all those young whippersnappers.

with Jones to LA
this really opens the door.

let me suggest this:  Bedard and Tejada for Kemp, Loney, Hu (AAA-ss), Broxton and low minor prospect pitcher.

i don't think LA moves Kershaw, but all the other parts are expendable or superfluous for them.  Hu is an excellent defender and can run, though very little pop.  Broxton becomes the closer and will form with Ray at the back end to be very formidable once Chris comes back.  Loney is the everyday 1B, Kemp plays left.

then they talk themselves into thinking they can be competitive, they go out and offer Rowand 5 years and $60 million.  imagine THAT!

resulting line-up:

2B  Roberts
CF  Rowand
RF  Markakis
1B  Loney
LF  Kemp
DH  Millar/Gibbons
3B  Mora
C   Hernandez
SS  Hu

i just re-read this.  i've had too much caffeine this morning!

IF....Then
If the orioles trade away Bedard or Roberts
If the Orioles don't trade Miguel Tejada
If the Orioles keep a bunch of crappy players such as:
Gibbons
Mora
Millar
Hernandez
Etc
Etc

Then this fan of 20 years is washing his hands clean...I just can't take it anymore.  What are we preparing ourselves for? 10 more years of rebuilding?  Oh boy!

by OsFan1980 on Dec 6, 2007 10:48 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

This time, it's different
...at least, that is what everyone keeps saying.  Right now, I'm on with MacPhail and support trading away our "big three" of Bedard, Tejada and Roberts as long as we get great prospects in return.

However, if we get Joe Carter and Will Clark for those guys.....

Rule 5
o's have taken randor bierd (b/w a & aa last year: 67.2ip/16bb/81k/2hr and eras of 2.05 & 3.35) and ryan rodriguez (still trying to figure this one out, though he's only 22).

i believe bierd was taken on the phase that would require him to be on the ml roster.  rodriguez was taken in one of the minor league phases.

So, I said, uh, lama: how about a little something for the effort?

by jq higgins on Dec 6, 2007 10:54 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

fwiw...
baseball america looks at bierd faorably as a guy w/ a very good chance of contributing at the ml level right away, though probably not as a closer.
So, I said, uh, lama: how about a little something for the effort?

by jq higgins on Dec 6, 2007 11:03 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And *I* look at Radnor Bierd as
a combination which sounds more like somebody's name spelled backwards than anything since Detlef Schrempf. (Unless you count Nomar, which is somebody's name spelled backwards.) Hey, *%$# the guy's stats, we're going to need Radnor purely for phonetic marquee value!

by Titov on Dec 7, 2007 2:44 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Checking his stats
on The Cube, Bierd put up some nice numbers last year in AA.  I'm talking about .90 WHIP, 10.25 K/9, 6.11 H/9, 1.97 BB/9 & .20 HR/9.  This has to translate into "Better than Rob Bell" on a Major League level.

Wow
23 years old, and a career minor league IP:K:BB ratio of 239:245:64.

Combine this draft with the Trax deal and signing Weiters and you have to like the few moves Lee has made thus far.

by silverstadium on Dec 6, 2007 11:46 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

even better...
early returns on a good bit of the o's 2007 draft class are favorable.  obviously, high a isn't the greatest indicator for some of these guys (hey, remember chris vinyard?), but arrieta also looks to be a good signing that will be w/ the big club sooner rather than later.
So, I said, uh, lama: how about a little something for the effort?

can we...
get him a better name though?  Randor Bierd?

you don't like characters from lord of the rimgs playing baseball?  apparently, a dude named ray liotta also got drafted.

Kind of puzzling to me
Why the Nats would sign Aaron Boone and Willy Mo, I would think they need to get younger faster but maybe I'm wrong.

by Baltimo on Dec 6, 2007 12:26 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

wily mo
Wily Mo is only gonna be 26 next year and still has a fair amount of potential. He seems like a solid enough piece for the future for the Nats

File this deal under "Waste of time"
Rotoworld has a fresh rumor up of us trading Tejada to the Astros for Adam Everett, Chris Burke and an unnamed pitcher.  Uggggggh...

No Deals in Nashville
ESPN reports MacPhail has left Nashville.  It doesn't mean he won't make a deal down the road, but it does mean he won't be making any in Tennessee.

Not surprising...
I wonder how many deals Angelos nixed?

re:
Maybe MacPhail is driving out to the airport to pick up Angelos so he can come in and nix any deals for his "superstar" players the organization can't afford to give up.

This
team can't even get rid of players.  How in the hell did we ever expect them to add the right pieces?  You are telling me that eleven teams are inquiring or have offered about Bedard and every one of them has been a lowball offer or hasn't been countered by the team?  Eleven!  McFail will be gone within two years and much like Keith Richards, Petey will live forever.

In Keith's defense
he's only 63, compared to Angelos' 78.  And he probably didn't sell his soul to Satan in exchange for immortality, either.

He made great music for decades but
if you take a slightly closer look at Keith now you realize that, alas, he passed away some years ago. Now if Petey would just take the hint...

have ESPN Insider, so we can all find out what they're saying about the chances of a Bedard-Dodgers trade?

Winter Meeting Success!
I'm not terribly surprised the O's made no major moves this week. Recent articles indicate MacPhail is very methodical and that doesn't translate into quick movement (expect possibly with the Cubs).

So the O's can claim some degree of success because...

But the Orioles didn't do anything rash or stupid either; that, in itself, is a victory.

MacPhail only browses at quiet winter meetings

So has this franchise been reduced to being praised for not making stupid moves at the winter meetings. Great. I suppose they must start somewhere.
