PREDICTIONS 2007

Dear Diary, here are my predictions for 2007:

AL EAST

  1. Boston
  2. New York*
  3. BALTIMORE
  4. Toronto
  5. Tampa Bay
AL CENTRAL
  1. Cleveland
  2. Detroit
  3. Minnesota
  4. Chicago
  5. Kansas City
Cleveland has a hell of a lot of good players.  Detroit got lucky last year, but is still good.  Minnesota has one starter.  Chicago gets the short straw, and Kansas City sucks ass.

AL WEST

  1. Oakland
  2. Texas
  3. Seattle
  4. Anaheim
???? I really don't think the Angels are very good.

NL EAST

  1. New York
  2. Philadelphia
  3. Atlanta
  4. Florida
  5. Washington
The Mets' rotation is a joke, but they can overpower the rest of these teams.  Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked to see Atlanta win again.

NL CENTRAL

  1. Chicago
  2. St. Louis*
  3. Milwaukee
  4. Houston
  5. Cincinnati
  6. Pittsburgh
You know, this division is really kind of good IF IF IF a bunch of crap goes right.  Without Dusty, I have a strange belief in the Cubbies.  I put the Cards 2nd because they have the best player and the best pitcher (close enough) in the league.

NL WEST

  1. Los Angeles
  2. Arizona
  3. San Diego
  4. San Francisco
  5. Colorado
Who cares?

ALDS
Boston over Cleveland
Oakland over Yankees (ahaha, A-Rod 1-21)

NLDS
Mets over Cards
Cubs over Dodgers

ALCS
Red Sox over A's

NLCS
Cubs over Mets

WORLD SERIES
Red Sox over Cubs

You know, I almost want to pick the Cubs to win the whole thing.  It's not like I pick the Sox because they have the best or anything, they're just the bomb!  But I do honestly believe the Cubs have a good chance, and were I a neutral observer, I'd pick the mfers.  They've got the new manager replacing the buttheaded retard they used to have, talent out the wazoo, why the heck not the motherfreakin Cubs?

AL MVP:  Miguel Tejada (yeah that's who I pick!)
NL MVP:  Albert Pujols (he's good)
AL Cy Young:  THE DICEMAN (I've decided to believe big time)
NL Cy Young:  John Smoltz (he was really good last year and why not)
AL ROY:  THE DICEMAN
NL ROY:  Mike Pelfrey??
AL MOY:  Bob Geren??
NL MOY:  Willie Randolph (he should've won last year; he's a good manager)

They take the East.  They are going to be good this season.

Cubbies Choke
I hate the Cubs!

I hope they lose 100 games this year, Besides I like the Brew Crew in the NLC. IMO I go with Texas this year in the west as well and the Twins in central

Yeah
Cubs aren't going to be good. No team OBP. Brew Crew is where its at. The NL Central is gonna stink anyway.

Man I disagree
Lee, Barrett, Floyd, Murton and Ramirez have all proven to be able to get on base.  Soriano could go hog wild again (or could suck balls.)  If things go right for the Cubs (as if), they could smoke the National League like the Mets did last year.  I really think if you compare the Mets last preseason to the Cubs now, they are very similar.

pitching
Is why I thing they suck this year. NO Pitching = suck for you!

Cubs will put up numbers

Not really
They have Zambrano, easily one of the five best pitchers in the NL, Ted Lilly, who is reliably decent at least, and Rich Hill, who looks like the real deal.  Plenty of teams would jump at the chance for that top 3.  Plus, if Mark Prior ever stays healthy again, he is the bomb.  Again, IF IF IF, but every team is IF IF IF.  The Cubs could be seriously f'n good.

Lilly
I forgot he's on the cubs.

ut Rich Hill is ??? Woods should just stop while he still has an arm left, then you have Sean Marshall - if he's healthy he might be OK, I don't think they're staff can stay healthy. Zambrano is going to get rocked this year and sign for a little contract (Hoping)

The Cubs pitching staff
The Cubs have a starting rotation that 'rolls mad deep', but have limitless question marks.

Carlos Zambrano will dominate as he always does.  He may, in fact, win 20 games as he's motivated to show the Cubs that he can be be in true ace form.

Rich Hill showed some progress for the first time since being brought up two seasons ago.  He looked comfortable and fairly unhittable.  A full season of him will, more than likely, be full of peaks and valleys.

Wade Miller has the ability to win between 15- and 20-games every season; if he can remain healthy.  When pitching for the Astros he showed off just how good he can be going 14-13 with an ERA of 4.13 and 161 SOs in 2003, 15-4 with an ERA of 3.28 and 144 SOs in 2002, and going 16-8with an ERA of 3.40 and 183 SOs in 2001.  The dude is capable, he just needs to stay healthy for longer than two months.

Mark Prior is Mark Prior.  A series of hard-luck injuries has turned him into a joke, but he's still capable of turning it around.
Sean Marshall is injuried but may come back late in the season and put up better number as he becomes used to the majors.

Ted Lilly is a solid 3 or 4 guy.  Plus, he's a leftie!  Which the Cubs never have in their rotation for whatever reason.

Jason Marquis...is a 4 or 5 guy.  He did well in the playoffs, but hasn't put up consistant numbers in the regular season (save 2004 which was crazy) to warrant the kind of contract he got but whatever.

Juan Mateo, yeah, Juan Mateo actually had some games where he showed off some great 'stuff' surrounded by a forrest of not-so-great.  It's probable that he'll start the season at Triple-A, but he could be called up and do slightly better than Jason Marquis.

Kerry Wood.  People have told me that their prediction is that Wood will get healthy, pitch great in the set-up, then closers role, then be promoted to the rotation for some reason.  He's worked on his mechanics and doesn't look like a spazz throwing the ball, so he may be able to stave off injuries to his back but who knows.

Of course, they also have Angel Guzman (who could start pitching again instead of throwing batting practice), Carlos Marmol (who wasn't terrible at all his first trip to the 'bigs'), and Ryan Dempster (who loves to confuse and bewilder fans by either showing up or being terrible) who are all more experienced and can step in whenever one of the starters get hurt.

Deep yes
But broken by July, you can't win off pitchers who are hurt all the time. Carlos and Ted are the only sure thing they have as far as starting pitching goes.
