Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Now that the AAA team is in Norfolk...

...do you think you'll be attending games? I'm simply curious, is all.

Also, anyone that attends games in Norfolk, Bowie, Frederick, Delmarva, Aberdeen or Bluefield this season, I strongly encourage and even request your impressions, thoughts, photos, whatever from the games. It'd be greatly appreciated.

I can get you some Chris Hoiles stalker photos
from the York Revolution, but that won't tell us anything about the future of the O's.

I haven't been to a minor league game in years.
I should get back to them. I grew up relatively close to Bowie and went to those games a lot, and I went to college in Delmarva and saw a bunch of Shorebirds games. According to the the timeline I saw Brian Roberts play in Delmarva, but I don't remember him. Watching the games was not actually that important at Shorebirds games, it seems. My dad and I also used to try and see a Hagerstown Suns game when we visited my grandparent, but I think they're affiliated with Blue Jays now...I could be wrong I guess. I saw Chris Hoiles play a rehab game there after he broke his wrist. After the game he talked to me and my dad and gave me a baseball. I love him.

I guess that has nothing to do with your question. Norfolk is too far away from me I suppose.

Maybe
Frederick or Bowie since I am between them. I had enough of the Norfolk area since I was stationed down there for 3 1/2 years. If only my favorite team took over the Tides before I left. I would've attended a lot more games.

I went to a Bowie game last year
It was OK. They put on a pretty strong kid-friendly thing at those, and I don't particularly like kids.

Beer's cheaper than at Camden. Plus, a dude I went to high school with is the bullpen catcher. Apparently he can't hit minor league pitching.

part of this
I'll be honest.

Part of this is because I talked with the PR guy from the Tides, and he's a really great dude that has offered to provide insight on the park, the players, photos, etc., if I ever need any of it. The Tides management is long-standing and very dedicated to what they do, and I have nothing but 100% positivity for the O's affiliating with Norfolk. They have a pretty rich tradition.

Harrisburg
I went to a Senators game last year, and while I can't root for them because they're affiliated with the Nats, I had a nice time.  Tickets are really cheap, food is really cheap, so beer is really the only thing you spend money on.  We even got a free loaf of bread when we got into the parking lot (some bread company was giving out samples) and fireworks.

Samples?
Of Bread?  Pennsyltucky is weird.

by Jonnypops on Feb 7, 2007 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah
It was good bread. I think it was some new bread from Sara Lee. I guess I could have worried about it being poisoned, but if you don't trust a guy handing out bread in the minor league baseball parking lot, who do you trust?

Tennessee is weird too.
I got loaves of that same bread (probably, it was Sara Lee), free after Nashville Sounds' games last season.

Nash Vegas
Another Nashvillian O's fan on camdenchat?  Actually I might be an ex-Nashvillian pretty soon.  As far as the Sounds go, I rarely go unless it's Thirsty Thursday and I haven't done that in awhile.  I wish I had more in the past given that the Brewers' farm system was pretty loaded lately with Fielder and Weeks.

Actually...
Technically a Nashvillian Red Sox fan, and agreed on Thirsty Thursdays.

The thing I remember most about the Brewers' latest crop was Corey Hart's girlfriend.  She seemed like she tried to make everyone in the stadium (a lot of ground to cover, if not a lot of people) know who she was.

Does this mean we have to dual?  Showdown at SoBro?

Hmm...
I think I'd feel more comfortable discussing our differences in one of the parking garages by Printer's Alley.

LOL
"I think I'd feel more comfortable discussing our differences in one of the parking garages by Printer's Alley."

Printer's Alley is a good choice.  It's about the only place in Nashville that has a gritty urban feel.  Did you notice that Beyond the Edge near 5 Points has a bunch of Red Sox/Beyond the Edge gear?  I thought I remember them selling shirts and hats that said something like, "Beyond the Edgers always root for the Red Sox," other rah rah stuff like that.  Is there a small RS contingency on the east side that I don't know about?

carolina league...
i went to school in wilmington and saw a bunch of blue rocks, but made an attempt to see frederick every time they were in town, but the $5 bud super fun cans have clouded my memories.

What is a super fun can?
I'm intrigued.

not official name...
but the nickname of the over 16oz can.  i think they were 20 or 24 at blue rocks games.

but it's still bud, right?
to me, that's not fun.

i'd rather pay the extra $ for a decent beer than have someone giving me an entire gallon of watery, flavorless suds...which is what bud is, let's face it.
