What's wrong with Danny???

Another great spring training game.  3.0 IP, 1H, 5K, 0ER  and get this, NO BB!!!

So far this spring, 5IP and 0 friggin walks!

I'm having a hard time not getting excited about this team.  Between Bedard, Loewen, and Cabrerra it looks like we could possibly have a top 3 that isn't an embarssment.  Hopefully Danny really has matured and taken a step forward and can carry this over into the regular season.

Ok I'll be a pain in the ass
It was only 4 K....but he still looked great.  The important thing is NO WALKS.  And this was against all of the Mets stars except for Delgado.  Not a scrub squad like the one we're fielding today.

Hey dudes.
Go Danny Cabs.  We share a first name!

Where I can listen to Baltimore sports radio online?

by exitfare on Mar 8, 2007 3:31 PM EST reply actions

WBAL.COM
Once the flagship of the O's for about 30 years, they have a sports show every night at 6pm for 3 hours.
Hosted by Steve Davis, and once in a while joined by co-host Peter Schmuck...a true Angelos hater if ever there was one...the show is very apolitical and not real rah-rah. Nothing like the buttholes in Philly on WIP...but they truly are sports fans and will tell it like it is.
They also don't attract ALOT of real true blue idiots like other sports stations around the country.
Took off runnin' but I take my time...

thanks
I grew up listening to WIP for most sports.  I forgot about WBAL -- I used to be able to pick up games when I still lived in Philly.

WIP
Oh god, I'm an Eagles, Flyers and Sixers (come on guys, stop trying to win!) fan, so I listened to WIP a lot when I lived in Philly.  They (1 show in particular, I think) really do have a palpable negative influence on a significant portion fan base there. (The idiots who booed Donovan McNabb at the draft, for example, were organized by WIP.)

i just remember...
going to school in delaware and listening to the call in shows bash abreu.  they didn't quite accuse him of sitting under the foul pole w/ a sombrero covering his eyes, but it was akin to that kind of nonsense.  really vulgar stuff.

That's why
the new Philly sports talk, 950, is starting to KILL  WIP in the ratings.

Philly has that element.
Take a look at that idiot down at Geno's Steaks...which makes shitty cheesesteaks by the way.

by Jonnypops on Mar 9, 2007 10:17 AM EST up reply actions

y'know...
i worked at the ag's office in philly for a bit and never went to geno's or pat's.  the street vendor steaks were aces!

by jq higgins on Mar 9, 2007 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

Never tried a Vendor Steak....
Personally I think both Pat's and Geno's are way overrated.  But out of the two Pat's is better...and they don't bombard you with all the conservative propaganda signs while you're waiting on their long ass line.

I probably like Jim's the best.  Although there is a place in Northeast called Steve's Prince O' Steaks that's pretty damn good too.  I tried Dalessandros's in Roxborough recently and was not impressed at all.  But I still have plenty around town I need to try.  Chubbies, across from Dalessandro's, is supposed to be very good.  So is a place (unfortunately) called Chink's.

by Jonnypops on Mar 9, 2007 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

wow...
that is some serious steak iq, bro.

RE:
Chubbies is great; there is another one in Roxborough that is probably even better, but I can't remember the name, but I'm pretty sure it's not Chinks.  Barry's maybe?

I'd take Tony Luke's over any of them.  And btw, if you go the Citizen's Bank, avoid both the cheesesteaks altogether as they both suck.  The Schmidter stand is far and away the way to go.

The only other one...
...I know of in Roxborough is Dalessandro's...and a lot of people swear by it.  I'm just not sure why.  I've read on message boards that they were the bomb in the 80's but have since faded.

RE:
It's Barry's I was thinking of.  And yeah, I've only eaten at Delesandros once and I wasn't impressed.

My wife...
...swears by Abner's near the Penn campus. I've had theme there a few times, and they're pretty good. The only other place I've tried is Pat's, and they sucked compared to Abner's.

Try Claymont Steak in Claymont, DE
They have the absolute best hand sliced ribeye in the USA, and they authentic Buono Brothers rolls from Chester, PA.
It's right off I-495 across the PA line.
Try it...you'll love it!

Delaware Steaks?
C'mon man.  The only thing Delaware is good for is getting in a traffic jam while waiting to pay a toll.

by Jonnypops on Mar 9, 2007 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

How about tax free shopping? LOLOLOL
The state does totally suck, and so it's roads...however when I pass thru down 95 and the thought strikes me, I stop in for a meal.
It is worth the trip..trust me.

actually...
delaware steaks are silly good.  there's this joint called capriotti's that makes a mean steak, too.

by jq higgins on Mar 9, 2007 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

By the way....
get off of 95 at the 896 exit.
Go up to the rt 4 light, turn left, then left again on Rt 279/Elkton Rd.
I-95 is right up the road...you just skipped a $3.00 dollar toll, and didn't have to wait in those ghastly lines.
It will cost you about three extra minutes of driving.

I am forever...
...in your debt.  I'm assuming this is going southbound toward Baltimore?  Do you have a northbound shunpiker route?

by Jonnypops on Mar 9, 2007 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

Take MD exit 109B -
Go up about 1-1/2 miles, turn right on Del 4, then right again on Del 896.
I-95 North will be about a mile up on the right.

Whiplash
I'm having a hard time not getting excited about this team.

That's awesome, BFiP, and I agree. But how does your excitement jibe with your "I refuse to be seduced into thinking this team can win" post?

by zknower on Mar 8, 2007 3:35 PM EST reply actions

What can I say...
...I'm not good at keeping my negativity.  Can't help it, I really like this team.  As hard as I try to be negative for the good of the team, when I see Cabrera pitch 5 consecutive inings without a walk, I have to be impressed.

Just remember BP....it doesn't count until April.
Then we'll see.
However, I'd rather be where we are today than at any time during the past 6 or seven years.

Love that song. have you ever heard the Lyle Lovett version? It's haunting.

Yeah, it's kinda creepy.
Lyle is way cool.
I guess Julia Roberts thought so for a while too.
I guess she didn't want to be married to someone with possibly worse bed head than her.

re:
Hah. The title of this post reminded me of some ribbing I took from the local (Red Sox) fans after Danny's disastrous 2006 opening start in Fenway.

"That's your favorite Oriole ..."?

I'm looking/hoping/praying for those days to be done with, and for Danny to come back and do a number on the Red Sox ( and everyone else).
