Cal Snubs Imus Over Racist Remarks
Kudos to Cal Ripken for cancelling his appearance on Don Imus' radio program in the wake of Imus' racist comments about the Rutgers Women's basketball team.

According to Cal's publicist, John Maroon: "In light of recent remarks made on the program, Cal will not appear on the show as part of his national book tour."
An appearance on Imus can lead to a lot of book sales, but Cal is doing the right thing and making a strong statement by refusing to associate himself and his image with Imus and his ugly remarks. Once again Cal shows he has the guts to do the right thing.

Bullshit
Would you walk up to a black woman and call her a "nappy-headed hoe" and a "jigaboo" to her face? Would you then pretend there was nothing racist about your comment because, hey white people can have nappy hair too? Of course not. So why defend someone who does the same thing by proxy with millions of people listening? These terms have a long history of being used in a racially derogatory way, and to pretend otherwise is simply disingenuous.
Imus and his Neanderthal buddies are entitled to their beliefs and biases just as much as I am to mine. But what bugs is that leading politicians, major media personalities, prominent authors, and sports figures are willing to go on his show and pretend none of this is a problem. There's just a horrible disconnect where these idiots are yucking it up over racist jokes one minute, and then the next John Kerry or Joe Lieberman or Howard Fineman are on talking about Iraq.
So I say good for Cal for standing up and saying enough is enough. Imus and his cohorts showed incredible disrespect to the female athletes on the Rutgers team. Good for Cal for standing by his fellow athletes and sending a strong message that he won't promote himself on a program the peddles that kind of garbage.
