Sorry, no promises of free beer and boobies today. I have graduation for my high school tonight, so I have to actually get in a tie and suit and walk in with the rest of the faculty and generally act like an adult. Get yer free boobies n' beer somewhere else, guys. Tonight's all business.

Here's the scouting report, courtesy of MLB.com:

Scouting Report:

Orioles: Burres returned to the rotation on Saturday after missing his last scheduled start due to an off-day and pitched a and career-high six innings in a three-hit win over Oakland. He retired the first 10 A's to step to the plate, and Nick Swisher's solo home run in the fourth inning was the only run Burres allowed. His second win of the season was his best performance in three starts since replacing injured Adam Loewen in the starting rotation.

Angels: Using his wide assortment of pitches, including a killer splitter, Escobar tamed the Bronx Bombers on Saturday for seven innings, holding them to one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out eight. Nearly unhittable in his previous outing at home against the Dodgers -- allowing no runs on three hits over eight innings -- Escobar now has a streak of 21 consecutive scoreless frames at Angel Stadium. He's 12-4 with nine saves and a 3.76 ERA in 33 career games against Baltimore.

by jloving on May 31, 2007 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My prediction...
Burres will outpitch Escobar, the Orioles reach .500, finish of the road trip with six more victories. The Sox get caught up in a HGH/prostitution scandal and are suspending from the league, giving the Orioles sole possession of first place.
Mark Texiera is traded to the Orioles for Danys Baez and Jay Gibbons, solidifying the line-up. Dan Haren is unexpectedly released from the A's, whereby the FO shrewdly snatches him up and inserts him into the rotation.
The O's win the American League Pennant only to lose the World Series to a resurgent Washington Nationals juggernaut.

by RobG on May 31, 2007 6:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My prediction...
The orioles will drop 2 of 3 while the Sox win 2 of 3.  The AL is too damn good for the orioles to contend, how long can these pitchers hold up for.

by Baltimo on May 31, 2007 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We got...
We got a 4 game series here.  I would accept 3 of 4 in LAAofA, 2 of 3 up in Washington and get the hell back to the correct coast 2 games over 500.

I can dream.

Lets hope the Yanks can actually win 2 games this weekend.  God I hate saying that.

2 of 4 in Anaheim (thrilled to not lose 3 or 4 of 4), and 2 or 3 in Washington.

Seriously
This team has a bad habit of following up a short winning streak with a losing streak...the last streak (4 in a row) was followed by losing 5 in a row (including that brutal game to the Sox and being swept by Tor).  2 of 4 is a realistic goal, especially since the Angels have been on a tear.

This Burres guy...
it sure it interesting to see him get his shot starting over an extended period of time. It seems like the O's have more viable young guys who could than in recent years past. Plus that Steve Trachsel thing is neat, too. 18:31 K:BB and a 3.39 ERA. Just wow. Jaret Wright might not have a job when he comes back.

Jaret Wright may not have a right arm...
literally...after the docs get finished with him.  Actually, that sounds pretty good.  Maybe we can pay the docs to make sure he doesn't come back - and then do that to Gibby too.  It will be like the O's version of Jack Kevorkian...except his patients won't be asking to be ended.

The only reason Patterson is in the lineup
Is because he is a really, really good centerfielder, can get infield hits, and can steal even though he doesn't utilize his speed because hes never on base.

But the Angels play the craziest baseball, ever.  They leave the gap completly wide open hugging the third base line, double steal, set up pickoff plays for a guy at third, and leave the middle open for Huff who can only get a single up the middle.  But they dictate the tempo and are always on the offensive, so I guess thats why theyre so good.

My entire mood swung
Along with every other O's fan when Baez came out.

I recall cringing every time Brower and then Ortiz came out last year. I kept wondering why. Why did these two guys repeatedly come out and screw the pooch? Now I know. It was Perlozzo just sticking with them because he hadn't a clue what else to do. Now Baez is that guy who makes me ill.

I cannot stand Chris Gomez's face
He looks just like this deadbeat landlord I had once and when I see him I'm filled with a bit of anger. It's too bad, because I like the guy, as long as I don't have to look at him.

Must've been a very quick flash, Kristen...
Nicky didn't quite get all of that. Still, good job both ends.

Is Burres eligible for the win?
Don't remember when he was taken out.

Why Ray?
Why not wait till a save situation?  It's this kinda desperate mentality that Perlozzo emanates that pisses me off.

the o's play with fire
that's the third time this game vlad's been up with 2 baserunners. At least it didn't hurt them this time thanks to the runner.

this is the old Sammy
Get a lead, fret like hell, play scared, bring in every reliever regardless of how recently they've pitched. It's annoying as hell.

Win
And..................................

.500

by Baltimo on Jun 1, 2007 1:04 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This
is entirely too stressful for a 4 run lead in the 9th with two outs and two strikes.

YEAH
six in a row! .500!

MASN is so budget
The post game graphic showed the Angels record as 19-36. Uh, that's the Royals record, assholes!  And the other day they had Mussina listed as the starting pitcher for the Orioles on their bottom of the screen crawler. Pathetic.

by Stacey on Jun 1, 2007 1:10 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The Mussina thing
must have been a bad joke from an intern. Has to be.

.500 at the end of this batshit crazy month.

Whoa, WE DON'T SUCK-- AGAIN!
Y'know, this was one of those games that makes you wonder "Jeez, that was easy. Why don't they just do that every night-- we'll get Series tickets in August, everybody's happy." In reality, of course, so many circumstances had to conspire not to happen in this game for us to win "easily" that anything but a very deep breath and a Thanks to the Almighty would be a naive reaction.

But a win's a win. Perlozzo continues his charmed life of un-stoopid moves and I go to work happy.

Go O's, see ya tomorrow...

p.s. Glad to see the Boob Effect continues in force. Thanks for the note, Kristen, and please keep flashin' 'em.

if Os
can steal one more in anaheim

then road trip has to be called success

assuming we don't get swept by ichiro

Now, on to tomorrow: uh-oh...
D-Cabs is going to have to have one of his flashes of brilliance to come out better than Lackey, who is starting for God's team. Maybe Kristen could arrange one of her flashes of brilliance...

You have to get to Lackey early. Like maybe in the locker room-- put Icy Hot in his shorts or something. Face it, he's good: coming off 4 straight road wins, he's tied for the league lead the league in wins,; and he's toughest at home. On the plus side he's a righty.

I'm not wild about our chances, but hey: they can't phone it in, the game will be played. Go O's!
