Camden Chatter, answer me this: I've noticed that many of you don't live in Baltimore, let alone Maryland. Where do you live? Have you ever lived in Maryland? How did you get to be an Orioles fan? Did your folks live in MD? If you used to live in MD, where did you live? When was the last time you were in Baltimore? Have you ever been to OPACY?

I live in Boston.
I lived in Rockville for a year from 98-99.

I grew up outside of Philly and became an O's fan because of Ripken.

I'll be in Baltimore tomorrow, as my flight to Florida has a transfer at BWI.  I will get down there to see a game sometime this year!

Last time I saw a game at Camden Yards was '03...saw, I know.

Grew up in Bawllmer
moved to Boston for college when I was 18 (1998) and I've been here since. Although, I suspect I'll be moving back in Baltimore someday relatively soon. And by "relatively soon", I mean maybe a year or so.

My folks live in Towson.
Last time I was in Baltimore? Weekend of May 5th.
Last time I was in MD? Last weekend.

I live in Oklahoma
but only for another month.  I am moving to New Bedford for Grad School.

I was born in Virgina so I am an Orioles fan by geography.  Also Cal was being a badass when I was a child.

I have only been to Maryland once and the only ballpark I have ever been to is Coors Field.  I plan on making the rounds in the Northeast when I get there.

Oklahoma City
Was born in Williamsport, PA and moved with my grandparents to Oklahoma when he retired out of Ft. Meade in the early '80s.  Most of my family is still around the Williamsport area but my grandfather was an O's fan so I'm an O's fan.

A depressed one at that...it has rained now for seventeen days straight and 26 of 29 days in June and is raining again.  Unbelievable.  Usually we are already in the midst of our three month drought and pushing triple digits every day.  I miss the sun. I miss winning baseball.

I live in Boca Raton FL, long ways away from OPACY. I will be going up to B-more late July, I was there last summer. I love it. Became a fan cuz my dad grew up there and loved the team.

New Orleans....
I'm from the Big Easy. I've never lived in Maryland.

I became an Orioles fan when I was 4 years old. My Dad is a Yankee fan. The reason I became an Orioles fan is because I loved watching Cal Ripken play. After that I just fell in love with the team. My favorite player other than Cal has always been Brady Anderson. I just loved watching him play the game. My Dad always makes fun of me because I'm an Orioles fan. But, I don't care because this is my team and I'm never going to stop rooting for them. I'm an Orioles nut. My friends down here in New Orleans don't get why I root for them. But, I really could careless because they could never understand my connection with this team.

I'm local, therefore wasn't asked
But I'll answer anyway. I've lived in Maryland my entire life, and with the exception of three years in Salisbury, have always lived within 20 miles of wherever the Orioles called home. I usually go to 10-15 baseball games a year, including usually at least 2 where they play the Yankees. I'm very serious about holding down the fort against those bozos.

I am old
It's getting disgusting. I'm nearly 30! The thing that sucks most about SSU becoming SU is that I can't just stop into the Salisbury bookstore on my way to the beach and pick up a t-shirt from my alma mater.

Speaking of which, I drove through Salisbury about a week ago on the way home from the beach, just to reminisce. How long ago did Nacho Pete's turn into Las Margaritas? I'm sure it's still essentially the same place, but I always get nostalgic about good old Nacho Pete's so it was a bummer seeing the new sign.

Nacho Pete's saga
The couple that owned it went through a NASTY divorce a few years back. Hubby ran his store, she sold hers. Hers folded, and eventually, he couldn't stay even, so he sold his. Kinda sad.

I live in Marblehead, MA,
but I'm not rich like the rest of the town. I'd like to think that I'm not obnoxious like some other Red Sox fans (er...like my father). I lived in Ellicott City until I was ten before we moved up here, but my young baseball fan self couldn't stand staying an O's fan when they tore apart the team that had been going to the play-offs in the late 90's. I'm a Red Sox fan now, but I still hope the O's can do well. I also write for Royals Review so I guess my fandom is a little atypical.

All right, calm down, you two!
Yeah, I (we) live in Moscow, and have since '94-- with regular breaks for Xmas and summers. I'm originally from the greater Chicagoland area, where my annoying relatives and more annoying immediate family were all White Sox fans or, as a kind of more appealing-yet-pathetic alternative, Cubs fans. I didn't like either-- I liked The Mick. 'Cause he was great. And boy was he.

We moved to VA when I was in 3rd grade, so I had to watch the Redskins growing up (still do) and got exposed to Orioles baseball-- to which I've been exposing myself right back ever since. Actually, I continued as an NY fan until the club was taken over by an evil, stupid owner who turned the franchise into a joke (where have I heard that recently?), at which point I resigned the pinstripe thing forever and promoted the O's from my regional favorite to Mah Numbuh Wun. Been there ever since. Even now, when an evil, stupid owner...oh forget it.

Now, as to the map: Hey, I'm closer to frickin' Inner Harbor than Hawaii is! Lemme on there!

Look, I said relax, you two!
As my (our) back-up place, we can use French Azilum, PA-- find Towanda or Wysox on the map; if still awake, look south 6-10 miles, and on a gracious bend of the Mighty Susquehanna you'll see French Azilum, where my great grandfather not-Titov bought our family summer home in 1930. It's about 65 mi. west of Scranton, so you can go to Red Barons games if you want. It's great, a no-host summer place for anybody in the family to use. Y'all come bah now, y'heah?

Representin' Slower Lower, Baby!!!
Delaware.  Lived here all 26 years of my life.  I'd have to say the two main factors making me an O's fan are 1) Cal Ripken being "a badass" as someone else put it, and 2)  Geographically it was either the O's or Phillies, and I despise ALL things Philadelphia!

If only I had known how it would be...  stupid child, stupid child.  Now I'm stuck.  I feel like I've fallen and I can't get up.

I live in Rockville
But Baltimore truly is unique for the state of Maryland.  I love the city so much, but it is a dying city.  In the 50's or 60's I think it had 600,000 people and a hundred years before that it was a major port town like Boston.  Now it has just over 300,000 and has one of the highest crime rates in the U.S. and the highest homicides per 100,000 residents.  Still a lovely city though.

live in Alexandria, VA, work in DC
contrary to Peter Angelos, there are baseball fans in DC and Virginia.

i grew up outside Hagerstown and went to Towson State.  i even ushered at Memorial Stadium between my junior and senior year.  worked the end of the horseshoe behind the O's bullpen, and every once in a while got to work the players lot and help escort players' wives and girlfriends to the lot.

all-time favorite O's moment, after the '83 series, is Opening Day 1989, beating the Red Sox 5-4 in 11, behind a homer by Cal against Fat Bastard Roger Clemens, and a Craig Worthington liner agains Rob Murphy to win it.  i was sitting on the aluminum bleachers in deepest right field.

I live in Towson....
But hey, since everyone's sharing their geographical life stories, I guess I will, too....

I was born in Tehran, Iran.....my parents moved to the states (Knoxville, TN, to be exact) to go to grad school when I was 2.  The intention was for them to finish up there and then we'd all head back to the motherland.

Then, a pesky little revolution happened.  It sort of made it....problematic....to return to Iran.

After they finished up in Knoxville, and then did some additional work up in Scranton, PA, when I was 5 or so.

When i was six, we moved to Baltimore.  A year later, the Orioles battled the Brewers for the AL East until the last day of the season, and that race is what you can all thank for the glory that is my presence here at Camdenchat.

I stayed in B-more for college.  Moved to NYC after graduation, took a year in DC, and find myself back where I started, in Towson.

Smallsbury, baby!
OK, Salisbury, but that's what the kids call it. As I've said before, it's a suburb waitin' for a city to happen.

2.5 hrs from OPACY, although Rt. 97 has cut that by almost 15 minutes. I'm 10 minutes door-to-door from the Shorebirds, 3 hours from Aberdeen, 3 from Frederick, 2.5 from Bowie and 2.5 from Norfolk.

So, with the exception of Rookie-level Bluefield, WV, I have the entire Orioles franchise available to me within a 6 hour round-trip of my front door. And I've been to exactly 1 game COMBINED of all these teams this year.

I want a pin on the map! Are we supposed to be able to add these ourselves, because I didn't see any option to do that.

Elkton, deep in the heart of Cecil County, MD
Born in St Michael's on the Eastern Shore, lived in Easton, MD until I was eight.
Moved to Newark, DE until I went to Towson for college, then back to Newark.
Moved to the tiny hamlet of Millsboro, DE for three years, and finally settled here, a scant 45 minutes from OPACY if the tunnel isn't jammed.
Can be at Ripken stadium in tenty minutes, and go there a few times a year. Cute little ballpark, but you can't bring food in...that hurts a lot since at one time I ran concessions and food service at Delaware Park racetrack, and I know the rediculous mark ups they put on a hot dog..someho it don't taste as good when you know it cost them a quarter and they sell em for three bucks!

Moved from Toledo to Bowling Green OH when I was 3, and met the 2nd cousin (Jack Faykosh) of Chris Hoiles at my families church. At the time I was a tee-baller convinced I belonged in the bigs, so Jack introduced me to Chris, and was always bringing me signed cards, balls, etc. Chris is a local guy born in BG - living in Wayne, and graduated from my cousins rival school Elmwood High in Bloomdale. He was very active in the area, and car dealerships especially loved him. I can remember going to a signing in full on catcher's gear...I've always been a loser...lol. Chris obviously became my favorite player, and in following him (including clipping and saving hundreds of "Hoiles Updates" from the local paper) I fell in love with the Orioles, and have now spent 16 of my 19 years with orange-and-black blood. Crazy times.

there ya go - 5 minutes of your life you'll never get back.

Chris Hoiles
I loved Hoiles. Talk about a guy who's career just sort of...ended! Man...he declined so quickly it was unreal. I saw him hit a grand slam against Randy Johnson. I think it was a big match up of Johnson vs. Ben McDonald. Johnson was still wild like crazy and the O's beat him up pretty good, but I think the Mariners hit McDonald pretty hard as well. Long time ago...hard for me to rememeber.

Brooklyn, NY
I lived in Virginia, Massachussets, Wisconsin, Colorado, Georgia, and Tennessee before settling in Baltimore when I was 10.

Stayed in Baltimore until college, then moved to New York in 1988, where I've been ever since (except for a grad school stint in SF).

I get back to Baltimore when I can. Did a play there in 2005. My mom just moved back after living in Upper Marlboro for years, so I'm psyched to see more O's games when I visit her.

York, PA
Born in York, lived there till I went to college in nearby Elizabethtown.  Then lived in University City in Philly for a year after college then NJ for like 4.5 years.

My dad's not really a die-hard O's fan.  He grew up a fan of Stan Musual and the Cards, but sort of adopted the O's after stan retired since they were the local team.  They're the only baseball team I've ever loved, (although I'm angry at them a good deal of the time).  In general, I do root for teams from Philly (but not the Phillies!) since baltimore's football team moved away before I started to follow sports, and there's no NHL or NBA team there.

Currently, I live in Manchester PA, just north of York.  There are snakes in my house.  It sucks like the Oriole bullpen.

London, Wisconsin
I'm currently failing a masters degree in London.  My family is in Wisconsin, where I moved to from Rockville after 6th grade.  I'd lived in Maryland from ages 4 to 12, the developmental sports affiliation years.
I also went to university in DC, missing the area, sick of Brewers fans, and almost comatose due to my hatred for Packers fans.  They're all far more annoying than you might expect.  That said, I'm rooting for the Brew Crew this year.  The Packers, though, can still and always suck it.

Oh
And that's not "London, Wisconsin," which may or may not be a real place.  That's London, England, and Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Near New Haven, Connecticut
Fell in love with the Os in 1977 after seeing them play regularly and realizing that not all baseball teams needed to suck for me to like them (my previous fave, the Phillies, traumatized my childhood and made me the somber person I am today). At the time I lived in DC, working for the federal government. From 1977 to 1994, when I moved from DC to Ct., I would drive up for anywhere from 10 to 25 games a year with my best Os pal, Captain Fred. We hit the bars in Fells Point before the game, and the bars in the neighborhood of Memorial Stadium afterwards. If I offended any of you back then with some of my drunken rants, sorry. Greatest times of my life were spent at Memorial Stadium. Eddie is my all time Os favorite because he was so great and clutch and yet so enigmatic, too.

Lineboro, MD
Not really in town, but it's only a mile or two away.  I live right on the Mason Dixon, in the corner where Carroll and Baltimore counties meet.

I live at home with my parents while I go to grad school in Towson.  It's a nice little pastoral, out-of-the-way sort of area, but I can easily jump on Middletown Road, hit 83 and be at the ballpark in about 45 minutes.

Pretty
I'm glad I got another flag up, but now that you've revealed my position it looks like I'm going to have to protect northern Britain from the Soviets.

Fortunately, most of the battles will be waged in Maine, somewhere around Mike Bordick's house.

Rochester, NY
I was born and raised near Rochester, NY, and still live here.  I'm an Orioles fan because my cousin had an Orioles coat that he gave me when I was 5 (plus, I'm assuming the whole Rochester Red Wings thing played a part, but I was too young to realize that at the time).  It was also 1983, so maybe I was just a 5 year old bandwagon-er.

I visited Baltimore once in 1997 and saw 2 games, Mariners and A's.
