Bullpen Talk

Can anyone tell me why parrish and shuey are still with this ballclub? It seems like they are used more then enough and have not preformed very well.

John Parrish is coming off a year in which he did not pitch and he 30 years old. Normally when a pitcher does not pitch for a year and sports a 5.21 era he is not long up with the big club. Parrish has been thought of and used as someone to get left handers out. However lefties are hitting 41 points higher then right handers. There is no career numbers that back up John Parrish.

Paul Shuey was picked up after not having pitched since 2003 ! Why the got him in the first place is a wonder. He is now 37 years old and has an average 3.60 career era. The oppostion is hitting .381 against him and still he is used like a good pitcher. Since being called up on June 19th he has been used 15 times. If he had been up with the team the whole year he would be on a pace for 48 games pitched in. This is way too many games is you average giving up a run less then every two innings.

Why 2 pitchers in their 30's with era's over 5.30 (shuey's is over 7) are still with this team is beyond me!

         Does anyone have an answer?
