We blew the game, but here's something
The White Sox gave up 32 runs in a double-header at home against Minnesota, which is just outrageous. The opener saw Minnesota win 20-14, then Justin Morneau hit three homers in the nightcap, a 12-0 Twins shutout.
Wow.
Here's another piece on Jeremy Guthrie, who is pretty much the man. Another quality start, another no-decision.
Neifi Perez tested positive for amphetamines. John Smoltz has gone on the 15-day DL. Griffey hit his 586th homer. Brian Fuentes will miss the All-Star game.

let's recap
1- last knight the ump hosed us in texas ... he even admitted he blew the call
2- on sunday it was mora -- safe at home with tying run -- called out by ump
3- mid week last week umps let jeter hit in a monsoon and cost orioles the rain-shortened win
that's three umpire decision in ten days that arguably cost Orioles three wins and definitely cost them two wins.
wayward O finds that highly lame.
SC, 2632, duck-- IMPORTANT
I think I posted my Yahoo access address on it, which I didn't mean to do, of course.
Thanks!!!
I appreciate an honest ump
"Melhuse made a diving tag on Gomez, who was called out by home plate umpire Brian Knight on a close play that brought interim manager Dave Trembley out of the dugout to argue.
After the game, Knight told a pool reporter that he was wrong on the play.
'I've seen the replay and I see that I missed the call,' Knight said. 'On that kind of play, I was fighting to get the best position I could get and called what I saw at the moment. I just saw the tag beating him.'"
Out of position...
Good point, I was wondering about just that:
In this case I think the other two would've pleaded "Sorry, bang-bang and you were the closest," but still...I would've felt better if the mistake had been collective, if only because it showed (formally at least) that they all wanted to get it right.
Home plate umps do have a very tough time of it on calls like this (Jackie Robinson, bless his heart, was out-- look at the pix, Yogi was right); but I don't know of any umpire initiative, formal or informal, to make it more acceptable for home to ask base umps for help except on checked swings-- now there the policy/practice has changed appreciably in a generation.
