More Love from San Diego

A couple of weeks ago I posted in a game thread about the nuts at Gaslamp Ball (the Padres fansite).  We had some fun and some laughs with them...

Star-divide

Well, it appears that they take us too seriously:

http://www.gaslampball.com/comments/2007/6/20/215558/953/202#202

It must be fun to be able to joke around when your team is in first place, and you've got an owner that actually seems to know what he's doing...what's that like?

Cheers!

I wish people would stop quoting that $95 m
figure. It's not true. The payroll is only $75 million. Still sad, but not as sad.

Those dudes just seem like douchebags to me.

re:
I'm not saying anything negative about anyone at Gaslamp Ball because they're very cool, I love their blog, and they have always been nice to me in my few postings over there, but whenever someone says that someone else "doesn't get (their) sense of humor," chances are pretty fair that it is, at the least, working both ways.

Agreed...
I was over there pokig aroud, and they're about as funny as a toothache.

illustrated once again:
interleague sucks.  see, those "glb-ers" (hee-hee) witnessed a small samnple set of our collective genius and i did not see any of our regulars quoted.

or, maybe, our posting abilities plummet when blogging against nl teams?

I feel slighted.....
I'm not a regular? Geez, where's YOUR admin powers, big guy?

i missed that...
i seem to know people more by their images these days.

besides, your powers are as such that you transcend the regular/lurker divide.

eh?

Did someone watch
American Body Shop on Comedy Central this weekend?

Say No to N2O...

Sam (shop owner): "Next thing on the agenda is the Nitrous Oxide policy. Does anyone remember it?"

Rob (demented body work guy): "Two hits a day."

Tim (retard paint guy): "Three on weekends."

Sam: "Industrial Nitrous Oxide is a lot more powerful than the stuff you get at the dentist."

Rob, clenching his fist in a triumphant gesture: "Yes indeed it is!"

Wait for the page to load...
it goes to a ComCen page and THEN to the Motherload video page. I couldn't get it to embed the player here.

Believe it or not,
I actually did see that show-- and that bit, when combined with RobG's "tooth ache" prompt, was what put me in mind of nitrous oxide.

Small world. Or small television world, anyway.

Hey Petey: enjoy THIS!

The pilot episode
is free on iTunes, so I figure why not?

Funny haha vs. funny gross
We're by far funnier than the Gas Lamp gang, plus our visuals are by far superior to theirs.

by RobG on Jul 10, 2007 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

said RobG, modestly. [Couldn't resist.]
But yeah, you're clearly right on both counts. I've really laughed hard at several short posts--

SC on Trembley's thoughtful explanation to a player for not starting him: "Kid, ya suck."

duck's nuanced summary of the state of the Oriole franchise for someone who's been in South America a while: "We still suck."

And some longer ones have also set me off. But the visuals by you and dayzd are really in another class from anything I've seen elsewhere.

Maybe it's just because I'm a techno-retard and don't see that much stuff for comparison anyway, but the CC visuals just amaze me.

Hey Petey: enjoy THIS!

Payroll
The payroll by my count is 93 million. The problem is it's the first time since 2000 that we've been over 75 mil. So the people who act like we've spent big the last 7 years are way off.
Please Angelos just die

by Gregg Olson on Jul 10, 2007 10:33 AM EDT reply actions

well...
even in today's market, 75 million is a lot, but if you adjust 75 million for inflation, that's a lot in year 2000 dollars.

by jq higgins on Jul 10, 2007 10:37 AM EDT up reply actions

FYI...
running 75 mill through an inflation calculator puts it roughly 88 mill and that's just adjusted for 2006.

I don't understand their article
One comment from duck about their comments, which was pretty much ignored in our thread. If they take some conceived umbrage at nothing, so be it.

Sadly, much of my pithy commentary here at CC suffers the same fate...

Did you say something?

by RobG on Jul 11, 2007 9:40 AM EDT up reply actions

And I post this with love and respect...

Nicely played, though - I must give props were props are due. Because I'm stuck in 1993, apparently.

I love
how none of them could believe we didn't comment on all of their hilarious comments about dolphin porn! Seriously? I think that they just don't get us, based on that alone. I can't possibly imagine laughing at that shit. But to each his own.

Dolphin porn?
Even LB3 never fell back on DOLPHIN porn. Degenerates.
