Gameday Thread: Rangers at Orioles, 08/21
Vincent Padilla, RH Erik "the Great" Bedard, LH (3-8, 6.30) (12-4, 2.98) I. Kinsler 2b .248 B. Roberts 2b .311 G. Laird c .229 C. Patterson cf .264 M. Young ss .303 N. Markakis rf .295 S. Sosa dh .246 M. Tejada ss .295 M. Byrd cf .314 K. Millar 1b .266 J. Botts lf .204 A. Huff dh .263 N. Cruz rf .212 M. Mora 3b .267 J. Saltalamacchia 1b .188 R. Hernandez c .250 A. Melhuse 3b .220 T. Redman lf .368
If we don't win this one, well, we'll lose. But seriously, this is a mismatch of epic proportions.
How good is Bedard now? From the Yahoo! preview:
"Bedard has surrendered three runs or fewer in 18 of his last 19 outings. He leads the majors with 207 strikeouts, ranks fourth in the AL in ERA and has the lowest opponent batting average at .210."
Good luck with that, Texas. Go O's.

How about everyone can bring their own cooler of suds?
Did I mention
weather?
Padilla was filthy in his last start, his first off the DL. This might be a low-scoring affair.

Salty's playing 1B? Missed that!
Delay
Speed kills
And that's 47 straight games on base
Huff hits a HR
I hope Johan enjoyed being within 20 of Erik teh Great, because he'll be 30+ behind again after tonight.
More 2-out RBIs. Nice.

That IS a ton of money
Bedard's price is going up with every outing.
Offer him $60M/4 in the offseason, buying back his two years left before arbitration, but guaranteeing he's here through age 31. It will be worth it, and he gets rich two seasons early. I'd put a ceiling at $75M/4 What's not to like?
NICKY!

If baez messes this up for Bedard
Could I watch?

I'd help
Because, you know, friends help friends move, but REAL friends help friends move dead bodies.
The day I finally snap and get rid of Baez
Got it
And no, Mr. FBI Agents reading this chat, we don't REALLY plan on killing Danys Baez.
Sorry, I'm getting paranoid under this administration.

re:
I don't care what you think of Heyman. He's a senior writer who can't seem to look at the stats and realize, as of right now, Beckett is about the 4th or 5th best pitcher out there in what is a tight race. How many voters will look past win totals? I figure not many.
The big picture is the award doesn't matter. It's not going to drop Bedard's price if he doesn't win it.
