The Orioles will hold a news conference tomorrow to announce that Trembley's contract will be extended through the 2008 season, according to several team sources.
MacPhail declined tonight to confirm that a decision has been reached, but said: "I don't think that anyone makes a secret of the good job that Dave is doing. I think the results speak for themselves."
I don't get Trembley's fascination with batting Corey second or his love for John Parrish, but the players play hard for him. That's the most important thing so I'm all for the one year extension. Reading between the lines, the one year deal communicates an extended audition while allowing the front office the freedom to kick Dave to the curb in the event that a sexy managerial candidate becomes available next offseason. Unfortunately for Dave, he really doesn't have any leverage in negotiating a deal. He gets to keep his dream job for another year. I'm sure that's enough for him for now. I guess Davey Johnson will have to wait another year for a possible chance to manage the O's. Let's hope Leo stays another year.
Congrats Dave. You deserved it. Now don't f*ck up.
