Liz to start tomorrow

Well we're gonna see another young guy.
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/roch/blog/2007/08/saturdays_starter.html

I personally think Liz can help this team more as a reliever and that his ML future lies in the bullpen. But hey, the Orioles have proven me wrong many times before and I hope that Liz proves me wrong again and throws a complete game tomorrow night.

He's had a pretty good year for Bowie, but he struggled at AA last year in his first action at that level. I would expect him to have an adjustment period up here as well, though its possible he could  dominate b/c the hitters havent seen him before.

Thats good
I had heard before they were going to start Burres. That would have a pretty crappy idea after his contribution to Wednesday's debacle.
"Baltimore? That's like being hit in the head with a crowbar once a day."

After disaster (30-3)
Think about what the front offices of other teams would have done if their team had been shellacked 30-3. I'm not ragging on Tremblay. He used what the front office has dealt him. What I just don't get is that there seems to be no consequences, at all, for that humiliation. The pitchers involved are all still in O's uniforms and even have pitched since.
Thus, it's with only a sliver of consolation that I can view Liz getting a start over Burres. The latter is still on the team.

Scapegoating
I think they might want to avoid the unsightly appearance of naming a scapegoat for a really bad day. I mean, yeah, Shuey probably shouldn't have been on the team anyway, but it's not his fault that Trembley basically decided to leave him out there to soak up the abuse. He wouldn't have given up quite so many runs if the game was still competitive, because Chadbrad or somebody would've come in.

Sending a message
One of ther three offending relievers should have been relieved of their job. The benefits of doing so would have been two fold:
  1. You can send a message that you're not willing to accept such a humiliating defeat by cutting someone.
  2. Replace the relieved offender with a young pitcher, thereby giving you an opportunity to evaluate and them the opportunity for big league experience.
But I guess our 'pen is so bad that they could be doing this every game.
I nominate Danys Baez for demotion.

Bring up the kids
I hope he can last a few innings so the those guys who come from that big pen in the outfield (they are supposed to be pitchers I think) remain put.
