I'm not banning Mike or anything of the sort until he's done something more than offend your delicate sensibilities. It's not like none of you have ever gone to the Red Sox blog and argued. It's not like there haven't been a thousand petty potshots at other teams on this site, hunreds of them from yours truly. His "attacks" are not overtly personal and are no worse than anything he's taken in response (or responded to, for that matter).

You can always choose to ignore someone you don't like. I ask -- for the last time -- that you just do that in the future, and that you stop taking any of this so seriously. It's easy to filter it out if you wish to do so.

AMA
"His "attacks" are not overtly personal and are no worse than anything he's taken in response (or responded to, for that matter)."

Actually this is what annoys me about him.  Look I don't mind heated debate on this website.  In fact, I welcome it because they provide learning opportunities.  You can't learn anything if everybody just agrees with you.  But with AMA, he'll disagree AND throw in personal attacks (usually explicitly "you're an idiot" or implicitly such as demeaning the poster's intelligence "if you knew anything about X, then you would know blah blah).  The snarky ass remark he made to Titov a couple weeks is a perfect example.  Titov made innocent remark about the O's pitching talent and AMA's ENTIRE post was a snarky as remark about how Titov's could post his comment on a banner to hang up.  The post had absolutely ZERO intellectual or substantive content and served no purpose but to belittle someone.  Oftem times, this type of post pisses off the poster which then leads AMA to receive some personal attacks.  Luckily, I believe Titov tastefully responded and that was that.  Look I would love to have AMA post here.  He's knowledgeable about baseball and I love talking about baseball with anybody.  But at worst, he makes explicitly rude comments (e.g. after the O's are sweep by team X, he'll post, "delightful"), or at his "best," he's conscending.  I mean the dude posts a request to join a fantasy football league and does so by insulting his intended audience!

WTF
My snarky remark was in response to his (lame) snarky remark.  You "people" trash talk (lamely) until you go blind but CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT.  And, anyway, I WAS serious, I can't wait for the "2 of the 7 Best Pitchers in Baseball 2007" banner to be raised at Camden Yards.  I mean, they DO give out banners for that, right?  RIGHT???  Because otherwise that dude's comment was not intellectual or substantive in content!  Like so much of what goes on around here.

Seriously, and this has been my assessment for a while, what with people in tears because their bosses and friends needle them about the Orioles, pick a new hobby.

I might have said
Terry Francona looks like a homeless person, but I certainly never ascribed the acts to him that you did to Earl Weaver.

Now look, I've done & gone broken my own rule - DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS.

snarky remarks
"My snarky remark was in response to his (lame) snarky remark."

How is 2 out of 7 best pitchers in baseball snarky?  Sounds like innocent fandom remark.  Is most deep or profound statement?  Of course not (not that Titov is not capable of such statement but he just wasn't going for that in that statement).  It's just a simple fandom remark.  The man is rooting for his team.  This is a Orioles website where fandom is common (e.g. Guthrie rules).  If Titov posted that comment at Red Sox blog and was lit up, I wouldn't have any problems with that.  Maybe I'm missing some context or another factor, but I don't see this how this was directly at anybody in a snarky way.  Whereas your comment, which you've admitted is snarky, was strictly aimed to belittle a poster.

And, and I honestly mean this with all due respect, but your post completely illustrates another beef, you get all emotionally bent out of shape over criticism (e.g. whining sorry I can't think of a value neutral word than whining but it is what it is, "Like so much of what goes on around here," personal attacks or at least conscending because as if we need you tell us how to live our lives, "pick a new hobby,").

2 of the 7 Best Pitchers
Besides, is "2 of the 7 Best Pitchers in Baseball 2007" really even smack talking since Bedard and Guthrie are actually really good?  I haven't done any rigorous analysis, but Stark (or was it Law) mentioned that Bedard should be Cy Young candidate.  They're both in top 7 ERA wise.  "2 of the 7 Best Pitchers in Baseball 2007" sounds like a simple, factual response.  I mean Titov did some fan smack talking elsewhere in his post but his "2 of the 7 Best Pitchers in Baseball 2007" remark is rather unsnarky.  And as I said before, if titov went to a RS blog and smack talked the RS and was ridiculed, I would say you got what you asked for and deserved.  But on an O's blog, smack talking other teams is par for the course.

by birdman on Aug 6, 2007 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions

The dude
was getting ragged on by fans of other teams because the Orioles are, like, not competitive, and came back with what I thought was a fairly weak retort.  Why this needs to go any further than that is beyond me.  Who gives a shit? Is further analysis really necessary?  And not to put to fine a point on it, they don't give out banners for having two good pitchers.  I would rather my whole team was good!  So like, hello?  Is this that complicated?  Was what's his ball's witty rejoinder the last word in the case of Orioles v. Everyone Else?  I hope not, because if so...yikes.

look man
I'm just saying you belittle people.  And that example proves it.

And FYI
Here is the offending remark and its two responses:  http://www.camdenchat.com/comments/2007/7/28/02345/9723/8#8

And then of course the original post mine was in response to, in which Teetov refers to "the dickweed Sawx fans and Yerkee jerks" and their "noxious fumes" -- who was belittling again?  Well, when in Rome...

You're all noxious dickweed jerks Goldberg!

Now, do I give a shit that this dude refers to Sox fans as dickweeds?  No, not really, because you see, sometimes in the real world, grown-ups will tease the fans of other teams, and then in turn be teased back, and on it continues.  Some call it "shit-" or "trash-talking" and it is really quite enjoyable.  In fact, many at this very blog engage in quite similar behavior, and even a few I would bet can handle the volley and not just the serve.  Really this is quite clearly demonstrated in the whole of that brief series of posts.  If you are still confused, please refer to that in the future.

"If you are still confused, please refer to that in the future."

I love the way you keep unintentionally prove my points.

"And then of course the original post mine was in response to, in which Teetov refers to "the dickweed Sawx fans and Yerkee jerks" and their "noxious fumes" -- who was belittling again?"

I thought you wanted to quit over analyzing this!

Well yeah, in the context of the post, he was sick of people shitting on his team.  And his response to those folks was a rather simple, factual remark (2 out 7 best pitchers thing).  And then he called the fans who shitted on his team "dickweed Sawx fans and Yerkee jerks."  A) If people were shitting on my team, I would call them jerks too but in your worldview, I'm just being too soft, whatever but fine.  Besides, shit talking may be enjoyable for you, but person X may not be into that shit.  I like to respect people's feelings but you want to call those people pansies, fine, that's your choice brother (maybe I've probably been living too long in south).  I'm not into telling people how they should feel.  B) As I said before, it's an O's BLOG, NOT A RS BLOG.  I think people should be able to talk smack about other teams (Yanks suck, Coco sucks, whatever) w/o being belittled or insulted.  If you go to RS blog or a team neutral site, you get what you deserve.

Just whom
did I insult?  Did I say "TITOV, YOU INBRED DOUCHEBAG" as a preface to my hilarious joke?  No, but maybe I should have...YOU IDIOT!!!  Seriously, and I know you'll come back with something irritating here , but lighten the shit up.

by Awesome Mike Awesome on Aug 6, 2007 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions

dude
"did I insult?  Did I say "TITOV, YOU INBRED DOUCHEBAG" as a preface to my hilarious joke?"

I'm just saying the whole banner comment belittled Titov's comment which wasn't even snarky.  In your defense, given the range of belittling comments at your disposal, the comment was at the lower end (whereas "TITOV, YOU INBRED DOUCHEBAG" would be on the higher end), but it's still belittling comment.  I don't understand why you're so up and arms about this, like some great injustice has been done to you.  In this case, you made a snarky comment, that's it.  Just admit it and move on.  Actually given some rest RS fans, I'm surprised you haven't said, "Damn right, I made snarky commment and I'm proud of it."

what the hell
Go read my first post in this thread which was in response to, um, you

by Awesome Mike Awesome on Aug 6, 2007 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

First post?
What's there that has to do with anything?  I noticed you admitted that you made a snarky remark in that first post.  Just own it brother!

by birdman on Aug 6, 2007 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

The dickweed
sawx fans and yerkee jerks he's referring to are in his own family... I didn't see a blanket statement from my man, Titov.  Same premise behind "What you say 'bout my mama?"  I can make fun of her, but you better not dare to.  As you go on to read the originl "2 of 7" comment you will see it was more of a "at least we got that" comment then a "we're better because we got that" as is witnessed by the White Sox fans and their sympathy...  then YOU come along and kick a man while he's down.  Truthfully, I find the "banner" comment rather humorous and responded with a jestful "thanks, dick!" like I would to one of my friends' smart-ass remarks... like "I know it's obvious and don't need your opinion on the matter."

And when Dempsey has become the voice of reason, we should probably be a little concerned. -Heather @ OM
