O's in the Arizona Fall League
I can't remember who was doing the AFL updates last year (jq maybe?) but I was reading the stats and thought I'd share them with y'all.
Brian Matusz (LHP): Brian has made two starts so far. His first, on 11 Oct, he pitched three innings allowing 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 BB and 1K. In his second on 17 Oct, he pitched four innings with 3 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB and 8 Ks. No, that's not a typo. He had 8 Ks in 4 innings. Pretty exciting, yes?
Ryan Keefer (RHP): Ryan came into a game on 15 October, immediately allowed a HR, and then left the game with an elbow strain. He hasn't pitched since but is expected to throw again next week. No offense to Ryan, but he's hardly a prospect beating down the door, so no reason to be alarmed.
Bob McCrory (RHP): Bob, who we all remember fondly stinking it up for the O's in September, has pitched 1.2 innings without allowing an earned run (2 unearned), with an OBA of .222, walking 1 and striking out 1. He missed a few days with a sore elbow but is currently back in action.
Chad Thall (LHP): Chad, who split time this season between Frederick and Delmarva, is having a rough go so far this fall. In 6.1 innings he's allowed 13 hits and 5 runs. Opponents are batting a lovely .433 against him.
Matt Wieters (C): Wieters Watch! So far in the AFL, Matt is 10 for 29 with 2 2B and 1 3B. He's taken 7 BB and is sporting an OPS of .969.
Blake Davis (SS): Blake has gotten off to a slow start. He's 1 for 13 with 1 BB. I don't know much about this kid but his OPS was only .714 in Bowie last year so he doesn't seem like great shakes. Someone please let me know if I'm wrong.
Brandon Snyder (1B): Brandon is having a great time in the AFL so far. He's 9 for 21 with a home run and four doubles. Only one walk, but so far so good.
Nolan Reimold (OF): Nolan has gotten off to a slow start, going just 5 for 32. He does have 2 HR, 1 2B and 1 BB.
That's it! Hopefully Reimold can pick it up and gain some attention as I think he'd be a good addition to the big club next year. The Arizona Fall League runs through 20 November.

The only interesting thing about Blake Davis, besides the fact that he plays shortstop
Is that he was absolutely AWFUL in the beginning of the season, so Bayesian updating would let us be cautiously optimistic. Except then he goes to the Arizona Fall league and is absolutely awful again.

Matusz will make fools of you all, American League hitters!
I like Chad Thall because I can pretend he’s Chad THRALL.

It’s a misconception that you HAVE to be an insane dork to play Warcraft. It is the overwhelming majority, yes. But some of us just like to play video games.
Now is it a bit weird that I like Chad Thall because of a very loose connection to the Horde warchief? …yes.

oh i wasn't doubting your sanity based on your love of WoW
I know plenty of dudes who play. I might’ve considered it if I weren’t so cheap (I did play Ragnarok Online when it was a free beta…which actually might have BEEN insane). Also Warcraft 2 got me started on playing video games back when my dad bought me the warchest. And I’m really excited about Starcraft 2, despite not really having times for games anymore. Also, I like D&D based computer games. I think I’ve beaten Baldur’s Gate 2 like ten times.
Ok, I’m the nerd, obviously.
I did think the bit about Thall/Thrall was a bit nuts, yes.

Also of note
Brandon Snyder has a blog that he, so far, has updated regularly.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Nolan Reimold IMO is who I really want to see something from in the AFL
Luke Scott’s only going to get worse in left field. I know Reimold’s no Carl Crawford, but we won’t have as much offense next year, we can’t have glaring holes defensively even if it is left field.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.
