So there it is. There you go. Now don't expect "wins," because you got your way on the road jerseys.

Word life.

This is the best news I’ve heard during an offseason since we signed Tejada.

Being a faithful reader of uni watch blog

uniforms are a big deal to me. The Orioles definitely did not drop the ball on this one, they look great.

Me too.

I’m even digging the way the new bird fits in with the whole deal. Which is surprising, because when I first saw it my impression was, “why bother?”

But I have to say that we now own one of the best road unis in all of MLB. Good job on outlining the script in black, too, that shiznit is SHARP.

One small detail...

Brian Bob was conspicuosly missing from the unveiling… Nicky was there, Georgie was there, Doc Jones was there, along with some oldies, Palmer, Boog, but no Brian Bob… just sayin’.

Brian might well get traded. He might well not. But the lineup they chose made sense.

He also may have had a scheduling conflict.

But I agree, who they had present makes sense for this current offseason.

Yup

I watched a bit of the broadcast online and saw the following:

Markakis and Jim Palmer modeled the away grays
Mora and Sherrill modeled the alternate blacks
Adam Jones and Brian Burres modeled the home whites
Boog and Guts modeled what I assume were road BP jerseys or road alternates? I didn’t see them except sitting in the group at the end but it was black jerseys that said Baltimore.
Sarfate and Waters modeled the orange BP jerseys with the names on the back.

Sadly, there was no runway, but they did reveal themselves by coming down an escalator.

Boog & Guts

were modeling the road BP jerseys. Boog was damned proud to be wearing the uniform, I can tell you that. I was about 12 feet away from him & he’s not too cool for the whole “let the franchise trot me out as part of the glory days” thing, either. With Palmer, you kind of get the impression that he could take it or leave it just so long as someone will listen to him talk. Boog’s an Oriole & he wants the city name on his chest. They really should use him as an asset more often. He’s like Rick Dempsey, but without the cheese.

It was pretty decent

but 1 thing that pissed me off… Jeremy Guthrie himself thought up the idea to have everyone in the mall do a bal-ti-more chant and about 7 of the fans joined in, including my gf and I from NJ. that really made me pissed about the fan base. they care enouh to show up for free swag, but when it comes to cheering/showing a bit of passion for the team? not happening. it was pathetic.

That annoys me a little, too. I went to a game in 2003 vs. the Phillies and they had a ’83 Orioles vs. ’83 Phillies HR derby for the game (Rick Dempsey won with the only HR hit by anyone).

Eddie Murray participated, and I, along with one of my friends who I don’t think even lived in this country for the Eddie Murray years, tried to get the “EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE” chant going, and not only did nobody join in, but most people looked at us like were from another planet. (Although that could have been because I attended the game dressed as ALF)

Although I don’t really like the actual look of the shoulder patch, it’s nice to know that the Warehouse is actually reaching out to the fanbase. It’s obvious those Maryland patches are an appeal to the base; I guess it kind of alienates former D.C./NoVa O’s fans, but I couldn’t care less.

Being a DC/NoVa fan of the Orioles

I won’t be offended by that comment. However living in Maryland, and now having the Maryland flag patch on there more than cises me. NoVa can go fuck themselves, they thought they were good enough to have a major league team of their own, fuck ’em.

While it's awesome you're an O's fan...

It doesn’t change the fact that the majority of the team’s base is in MD. There was a home state pride that was seriously lacking with the Orioles, especially compared to Steve Bisciotti’s Ravens next door (note a similar Maryland flag scheme on the Ravens jersey).

The Orioles are Maryland’s team. If there are fans elsewhere, that’s even better, but it’s good to see some Maryland pride.

I don't really care for football at all

but if I’m with friends and we’re watching the Ravens, I find myself getting swept up into “ravens fever” right along with everyone else. I’m pretty much the prototypical fair-weather fan when it comes to the Ravens – I don’t care when they lose, but love it when they win.

by PhilR8 on Nov 13, 2008 2:19 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

From the state of the O's fan base

there’s a lot that the FO can learn from the way the Ravens have handled themselves over the years. They took a team with no following or identity and in no time completely swept up an entire city (I still remember O’Malley lighting up the city buildings with purple lights in ‘01). Granted, they had a championship within a few years and are perennial contenders, but I think the way Bisciotti and his staff make everything they do about bringing pride to the city and its people pretty damn cool. Despite all the history the O’s may have, 11 years of sucking have put them in the same position the Ravens were in when they came; they have to earn Baltimore’s love again.

I think the “Baltimore” is cool, but I’m underwhelmed with the hat. It seems like the hat logo is halfway between the 1989 bird and the current (well, immediately previous to the new) bird logo. Not different enough to really be noteworthy.

And drop the apostrophe “s” on the alternates (Just have the “O” instead of "O’s").

Speaking as an out-of-stater...okay, a WAY out-of-stater...

1. The flag patch doesn’t bother me. In fact, I like the home sentiment behind it, although the banner itself has always struck me as the winner of a jr. high flag design contest (“Cool, Chucky!”) that everybody regretted when it somehow actually became the state flag (“What were you thinking, governor…?”). Still, the VA flag is too boring for words, and let’s not talk about the District. Let them talk about us.

[1a. Great Moments in Mayland Radio: I remember on a 1980s WBAL call-in show where the topic was reducing crime, listeners were calling in suggestions like adding more street lights, increasing neighborhood patrols and so on. Then one lady phoned in “Well, we could abolish the office of governor of Maryland…” OK, sorry, I got to thinking about governors and couldn’t resist an Agnew-Mandel reference.]

2. Nice to see the city name in cursive on the away jerseys. The old block-letter BALTIMORE was, I dunno, too industrial looking or something. No offense to our industrial friends, o’ course.

3. If Nick skips shaving for, oh, a couple more weeks, he’ll qualify for the Rasputin Fan Club. And maybe get asked to play in an Old Timers Replica Game featuring the House of David barnstormers:

http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?auction_id=46742

p.s. I’m a temperate kinda guy and everything, but y’know: Phuck the Phillies. Just phuck ’em. This Pretend WS anomaly was almost as depressing as the ’06 clusterf*cked-up Cardinals. SC was right, alas. The Rayzzz were the Tigers. And now PC Bud will spend all winter saying Parity problem— what parity problem? Oh, but wait— I just thought of an explanation for this utterly misleading 4-1 disaster: Um, anything can happen in a short series. Huh? Whaddaya think? Huh?
