Stay silver, Ponyboy
Aubrey Huff officially won his Silver Slugger Award today. It was quite a fine year for Huff, who outperformed every single projection on the planet to have his best season since 2003.
Congratulations, Aubrey.

Yeah it is
Accept having one good year every five really isnt, lol.
If we can get one legit prospect for Huff he goes in a NY minute.

yup
And I would say “legit prospect” in the most liberal sense of the term.

Unfortunately, that's all we'll get
I can’t see how Huff would bring back more in trade than Nick Swisher.

Kevin Gregg
was worth Ceda
I think the thinking on Swisher at the moment is “damaged goods”
Billy Beane and Kenny Williams had both seen enough?
Still finding a Huff match is the problem-Minn could use the bat but other then DH I cant see them playing him at third
Angels-very long shot
Toronto-very long shot
Giants-??? (better maybe then signing Burrell or Dunn)

Well deserved
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Huff—
Hard to really know. Team mgm is different. I think it more depends on Huff’s clubhouse rep on such a young team. Still if the O’s would eat 5 million of salary why couldnt he take Cliff Floyd’s spot.
I would take Edwin Jackson, Sonnastine or Niemann and move on.

Some risk
but still if you went out and tried to sign a guy like Huff your talking about a 3 year deal at $27-33 million maybe. The economic situation might play on a guy like Huff but most likely its a multi year deal. If the O’s decide they want to keep Huff around to DH this might not be a bad time to see if he would add a year on his deal. Another story.
For Tampa, they get a one year deal, if it doesnt work try again and they moved a player they were going to move anyway in Jackson. I agee that Sonnastine and Niemann still have some years although Sonnastine is going to be arb eligilbe in another year I believe.
I believe Jackson is the guy they would move just because he is ready to get an arbitration bump and most likely they dont have a rotation spot for him.
In the end for Tampa it will come down to what others are offering. Tampa is kind of in the situation the Marlins are with their arb players. They have limited dollars, Jackson is getting a raise and they most likely dont have a spot so you trade him to fill a spot you need help. I cant say I love Jackson’s numbers. His underlying numbers were poor, his k’s dropped but he won games and that gets people’s attention.
Still we need arms. I would take the deal if offered although I would try for Sonnstine or Neimann first. And again it all depends if anything else is on the table.
In the end we can lose 90 games with or without Huff. If we can get a prospect or young MLB player you have to do make the move and eat as much payroll as you need to make a deal work. I would only extend Huff if everything else we try in the offseason falls through or if the O’s would be willing to commit the DH or first base spot to him for a couple of years. Of course, you know from some of my other posts I want to go “pretty much all in” on Tex.
