Scott Proefrock leaving Orioles to be Assistant GM in Philly

According to Ken Rosenthal.

Proefrock, the Orioles' director of baseball administration, will join the Phillies as an assistant GM, according to major-league sources. An announcement is expected Monday.

The Phillies selected Proefrock over Jim Duquette, a former GM with the Mets and Orioles; Wayne Krivsky, a former GM with the Reds; and Muzzy Jackson, a former assistant GM with the Royals.

Proefrock will play a major role in contract negotiations and other administrative duties. Prior to joining the Orioles in Oct. 2005, he spent 10 1/2 years in a similar capacity with the Rays.

I don't really know much about what Proefrock did with the O's, but best of luck to him in Philly. I'm sure it's a better gig than here.

He spent 10 and a half years with the Rays prior to 2005?

Hadn’t the Rays only existed (even as an idea) only about 9 years at that point? Tampa was granted the expansion team in the ’95 winter meetings.

Iwas wondering the same thing...

Not really

10.5 years before October 2005 is April 1996. If I’m not wrong, Rays had a front office and minor league teams back then even though they didn’t play their first major league games until 1998.

The Phillies selected Proefrock over Jim Duquette, a former GM with the Mets and Orioles.

That’s interesting. I’m surprised they would conisder a rehash like Duquette rather than a young, unproven, up and coming talent. Duquette wasn’t a particularly good GM. And his regular gig on XM radio hasn’t really changed my mind about him. Dempsey was on this morning and my god, he’s AWFUL. I can’t believe he was even considered for the managing spot.

to be fair...

charlie manuel is a total idiot, too, and his team just won the world series. it’s amazing…how many years has he managed the phils, now? it’s like he still doesn’t quite grok the nl.

They must really think we're quality

Phils hired Perlozzo as well:

Perlozzo...

that’s where I stopped reading.

talk about from the outhouse...

…to the penthouse!

The most interesting thing about him was his name. And since MacPhail came on board the Orioles haven’t done anything too dumb. So there’s that…

Granted

how many contracts did he really negotiate with the O’s-oh here is the minor league minimum-sign here.

Now going to the Philles and a World Series winner- EVERYBODY wants some….

Sammy should be a good third base coach addition. A solid baseball man but this is probably his ceiling.

Leo got a bad rap. While he was here Guthrie and Bedard turned into pretty good pitchers. Cabrera-well he hasnt pitched for anyone.

I wouldnt mind being the O’s pitching coach in 2010 or so….just saying.

OK, show of hands, please: How many people knew we had a Director of Baseball Administration?

Much less one named Proefrock? OK, hands raised, please. Good, thanks, yeah, I see you on the side there. Could you raise ’em a little higher in the back rows?

OK, hands down. My calculator makes it …two. And I think one hand was up asking to go to the john.

Still, it’s nice to see the World Champeen Phils…yikes, I’m gonna barf if I have to say that again…graduating to stealing our high-powered personnel. It makes a kind of sense, I guess, when you recall the Phils 7-16 overall IL record for ‘08. I mean, which league’s personnel would you want your AGM more familiar with?
