Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

Mussina at Camden 8/22/08

Mike Mussina's last stand at Camden Yards was a Friday nite affair with the O's with the Yankees coming out with a 9-4 win in the end.  It was duel between him and Rhadmes Liz but in the end Robby Cano hit one off of Boog Powell's cook shack on Eutaw St. and Jose Molina hit one right after that to left center.  Xavier Nady hit one in the ninth followed by a toweing shot by rookie Cody Ransom.  The thing I can remember about that night is how Mike was still hitting that breaking pitch for strikes.  He can still pitch.  He was still hitting the high 80's that night.  He is by far one of the best five pitchers in Orioles' history.

Holy crap

It completely hadn’t dawned on me that I was at that game. You could tell that Girardi was desperately trying to leave him in until he could get the win, but our lovely late-season bullpen (Kam and the Fernando/Walker All-Stars) didn’t implode until he was already gone.

I have never wanted to beat someone to death as much as I did the little shit in the Cano shirt who was sitting a few rows in front of us. He turned around and mugged to the crowd every time the Yanks got a hit or a walk, like he’d done it himself. Agggh.

Shit like that always reminds me of that Homicide episode

Yes, this was the game where it went tied into the eighth then Kam Micolico threw a wild pitch that scored a run. I believe Jamie Walker let in a run also. In the eighth, A Rod had his only hit of the night, a double to deep center. I went to the game via a tour group.

Speaking of Jamie Walker...

does anyone else agree that he needs to be cut not only for sucking but also because that jersey #32 should be made available for the near future.

no

He’s as likely to bounce back and be fairly effective next year as he is to suck again. Probably not by statistical projections, but relievers are goofy. If he’s stinking it up again next year, release him.

First thought is...

who, exactly, is he blocking at AAA or AA for his role in the BP that can be reasonably expected to do as well or better?

So, Jamie stays.

Oh alright...

But he is on my shitlist until left handed hitters are being disposed of!! Mr. Walker gets paid to do one thing-retire lefties, so hopefully you understand my groaning.

Roberts is gone in the offseason

I have to give credit to the Orioles brass as far as doing their best as far bringing up talent through their farm system. The thing is that there is going to have to be a time where we are going to have to play like our competitors in the East. Why don’t we make a deal to try and get Mark Texieria this offseason. He is a Baltimore native and could possibly be that big bat that can push us over the edge. Markakis, Texieria, and Huff would be a devestating middle of the order.

Push us over the edge of what?

.500?

Lots of runs are good, but even better are starters that pitch beyond the 5th inning.

Yeah

That was the weekend that I was there. I’ll try and post the photos in the next couple days.
