Wieters autographed bat to benefit domestic violence shelter
I've been a minor league clubhouse manager for 20 years. The last few Novembers I've run an online auction to benefit the Domestic Violence Project in my hometown of Canton Ohio. My wife's sister was killed by her husband 11 years ago, so this is what i do now to try to help others avoid a similar fate.
Check it out at domesticviolenceproj.org
100% of the profit goes to the shelter.
Darn economy! Bids are down this year, and shockingly (to me anyway) is that I've had a Matt Wieters signed bat up for grabs for nearly a week and it hasn't drawn one bid.
The shelter, the auction and the bat are all legit...had him sign it myself, and will come with a certificate of autenticity from the Trenton Thunder, AA Yankee affiliate. Have a few Red Sox, Yankee items left also.

$50 for an autographed bat seems both cheap and expensive to me, but I know nothing about the autograph industry. Do autographs become more valuable for good/great/superstar players if they are from the time before the player was a star?

I apologize
Didn’t read the first paragraph, apparently.
To make it up, I’ll visit the site and try to spend $50 somewhere. I don’t know if I can get the bat (only two days left for bidding) but I promise to contribute. Domestic violence is a pretty bad thing, I’ve had some friends hurt before, though thankfully I don’t know anyone who’s been killed.
I was totally trying to poke fun AT Rick Dempsey though, trying to make fun of a really bad and inconsiderate joke that he made.

I’m gonna go ahead and say don’t worry about it. Although we knew you were kidding, the advice was just to be a bit more sensitive.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Thanks
The bat has drawn a few bids. Though we’ll fall short of last year’s total we’ll still have a nice little donation for the shelter when everything is wrapped up in a few weeks. Thanks again.
I had forgotten the Dempsey miscue, so I looked it up. Once a blockhead, always a blockhead I guess.
As for the O’s…I’ve gotta believe things are looking up for you folks, and Wieters should be a big part of the team’s resurgence. The Eastern League featured some excellent hitting prospects in 2008 but I think most observers agreed that MW was clearly the best .
