"When I talked to my agent recently, Boston was the first team I mentioned. I don't know if it's in the cards or if I squished my chances of ever returning there. I know the circumstances of my departure from there a few years back were blown out of proportion. I've talked to Tito [Terry Francona] several times since then and we're OK. I'd love the chance to go back there because that's a winning organization and they're committed to winning. They do things the right way."

I would love to see Jay Payton in a Red Sox uniform next year.
But he’d look even better as a Yankee.
Starting last season
he may as well have been in a PHN or MFY uniform.

Most People Know How I Feel About Jay Pay.....I CAN'T STAND HIM!
I really don’t care where he goes. I’m just happy that I don’t have to see him in the orange and black anymore.
Geaux Eaux's
No, no, no
He needs to start EVERY GAME in RF for the the MFY and bat 4th. Really.

Next question
Enjoy your time in Baltimore and any chance of going back?
JP: “I wish we could have won more and I wish I could have played a little more, but it became obvious they’re going with younger guys. I would never say never to anything, but it seems they’re looking for younger players.”

No, no, Jay, you don't understand
They are not just “looking for younger players,” they’re “looking for players who don’t suck as badly as you do.”
Well said.
Not only is he well past his prime playing years, he also was not very friendly in the few times I was graced with his lackluster presence. Peace Jay, hope it wasn’t good for you too…
You know, this is all true. All of it.
But I’d just like to say, that Grand Slam he hit off of Hideki Okajima was one of the most awesome baseball moments of the year for me. God that cheered me up all day.
My friend and I still talk about that at-bat
We were at the game, bad-mouthing Jay Payton (as usual). My friend says, “Even if Jay Payton hits a grand slam here, I’ll still hate him.”
Guess what, we still hated him. But for one shining moment, as we cheered our asses off and yelled in the face of the Red Sox fans that were sitting around us, we accepted Jay Payton as a member of Birdland, if only just for a single at-bat.
great moment
The one where we are behind by five and Jay Payton hits a solo home run and then SC guarantees that the Orioles will win the game was my other great Payton memory of the year. Two is a lot, even if they are both made better because of how bad Payton was.
I was at the Red Sox GS game and enjoyed it immensely, but...
I’ll mostly remember him flailing at shoulder high fastballs over and over again…
Yeah
I won’t miss Jay Payton, but I’ll always remember that Grand Slam fondly. I was driving home and was just coming around the bend on 395 by Camden Yards and I had a little happy freak out right in my car. I’m sure anyone in surrounding cars was appropriately alarmed.

What the hell...
Even Jay Payton deserves to have a few kind words on his way out of town. I also remember his game-ending HR robbery in Seattle to preserve Guts’ 3-2 CG win. One of the few times that using him as a late inning defensive replacement for LUUUKKKEEEE actually paid off.
You know who we need to give a few kind words to
Is Kevin effing Millar. Although part of me is terrified they’ll sign him for another year. So I’ll save it for when he signs somewhere else.

I heard he's going to sign with the PHN

Agreed
I was writing a goodbye blog post to our four non-arb tenders (also including Cintron and Castro), and I looked up Kev’s splits vs. the Yankees over the past two seasons: .344 with 10 HR. That’s over 27% of his TOTAL HR with the O’s (37). Dang.
