Cabrera feels the love from other teams, has no hard feelings
My ex-boyfriend Daniel Cabrera got a LOT of interest over the weekend.
Various reports indicate that 11 teams contacted his agent over the weekend. The Pirates are definitely in the mix. According to rotoworld.com, the other teams include the Nationals, Blue Jays, Brewers, Padres, and Rangers. The Sun reports that there are "a couple of offers, including one multi-year deal."
There was a little sadness but no bitterness, Cabrera said yesterday by phone from the Dominican Republic.
"I don't know how I am going to feel; I'll have to wait for the season," said Cabrera, whom the Orioles did not offer a contract at Friday's midnight deadline. "I don't know how to feel, but I have nothing bad to say about Baltimore."...."I think I'm looking [at this] in a positive way. I've been there five years. They have been waiting; they gave me a lot of chances," Cabrera said. "So I think it is good for the Orioles and good for me, too."

See, he's a good kid.
Danny and I may not have been in love the way Danny and zk were, but I always had a soft spot for him.

Yeah,
it’s too bad it didn’t work out. I remember Cabrera throwing a shutout—think it was against the White Sox—and old Ray Miller giving him a hug. There were a couple times where it looked like he might “put it all together,” but the fact of the matter is that not many pitchers with Cabrera’s control issues ever do. It was never a matter of “fixing” him, he’s just not all that good even if he could touch triple digits.
Both sides are better off now. Cabrera will keep getting chances because of his “live arm,” and the O’s are better off giving someone with an upside a shot.

I was in town
for the KC shutout he threw on, I think, July 2nd. Was really cool. I ended up about five rows behind the dugout for the last inning. I’ll have to post a pic or two this evening.

Do I really need to write the actual comment?

I will.
How did we fuck this up so bad? And what is this shit with the FO not knowing what they wanted to do till the last minute? My stoner friends in high school didn’t know what they wanted to do till the last minute…and a lot of them are still trying to figure it out. A professional sports franchise is supposed to have a plan in place in order to get value out of its contracts. We obviously could have gotten something for this guy, and we didn’t. It’s ri-goddamn-diculous.

I say no
Sure, they want him NOW that they don’t have to give up anything for him.
I’ll believe 11 teams wanted him when I see him sign a 2 year, $8M deal. My guess is, he signs for 1 + 1(team option) for somewhere around $6M.
Somebody else will always think they can “fix” Daniel. He isn’t “fixable.”

Reports were the O's shopped him around this off season.
Last off season there was interest and the O’s didn’t bite. That was the time to unload him
I’m not sure if they tried to unload him during the season. Teams aren’t willing to offer anything for him, but they’ll take a chance if the price is moderately low. I don’t think MacPhail was smoking dope with your stoner buddies on this one.

The real quote
….“I think I’m looking [at this] in a positive way. I’ve been there five years. They have been waiting; they gave me a lot of chances,” Cabrera said. “So I think it is good for the Orioles and good for me, too.” Cabrera then threw a ball at Andy MacPhail’s head.

Yeah. I'll really miss that.
Hope whoever lands him enjoys their new million dollar 7ft man-child. Suckers.

Z...
I’m sorry there’ll be no chance for redemption in the Cabrera Bowl next season.

But we should share the Cabrera Bowl segment with the fansite of whatever team signs him. Cuz we're, like, magnanimous.
And we enjoy a good laugh at some other sucker team’s expense!
Anyway, I’’ll be sure to send ’em the Daniel Cabrera Song (if I can find it again).

F him
Nah but for real it’s a nice quote. I don’t wish him ill in his future. I was just sick of him.

I hope he doesn't end up with the Jays
Because with our luck we’d end up losing a game 1-0 with Danny throwing the shut out and Adam Loewen hitting the game winning home run.

what would be worse...
that situation or a situation that has Cabrera vs Guts with Danny throwing a one hit shut out and Guts being lit up for like 7ER in 4IP?

That would be tragic, but
have you heard how feeble Adam Loewen is at the plate now? I mean maybe he can rectify his swing if a good coach gets ahold of him, but I doubt it. I am still a little angered about his whole situation…blows his arm out (twice) and then goes limping back to Canada to play for the Blow Jays…real cool there Adam. Nice Dutch-Boy haircut on your Rookie Cards by the way.

Oh I know it won't really happen
At least the odds are pretty slim. Honestly I can’t believe any team in the AL East would give Danny the time of day, much less the odds of Loewen ever making it.

D-Cabs should end up in the NL
The AL will continue to eat him alive, because every team knows, just hand around for 4 innings, and he’ll give up enough runs for your team to win. Maybe in bunches, maybe just 1 run an inning, but those runs will be scored at some point.

I want him to bat
So when he has a tantrum someone can fire one at his sorry ass.

Man...
you’re brutal. I like(d) D-Cabs. He was frustrating as hell but those handful of times he put it together he was a lot of fun to watch. I wish they could have got somethign for him but I don’t really have any ill will towards him.

yeah well
He stunk every single year. I never liked the hype — which still gets repeated — about his “impressive rookie season.” What the fuck was impressive, him walking 89 guys in in less than 150 innings? He never got better than his second season, and his last two seasons were his worst. He’s crap. He’s also a giant baby.

Watching Dan bat was humerous.
The dugout reactions were classic. Did he ever actually even attempt a swing??
by sickuvitall on Dec 17, 2008 5:31 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
yes, weakly in Washington
It was awful, and I hope he signs with the Nats just for the joy of getting to watch him bat every 5th day.
