I'm told that a person close to Teixeira says the Orioles have offered the highest average yearly salary, but not the highest overall amount. It's already believed they're the only club not offering an eight-year deal.
If this is true, and I certainly don't have confirmation from the Orioles, I'll speculate that they're willing to pay $150 million over seven years, which comes to $21.4 million per year.

UPDATE per merdon below:
Angels have withdrawn their offer, which was 8/$160M.

Seriously?
If this is the case, for God’s sake, go the 8th year.

Really, why go half-ass in for Tex?
If we are gonna do this, then give him an offer that will blow him away and end this fiasco. I can’t handle too many more Tex threads, the shit is making my hair fall out and my soul twist in abnormal ways…

It's the better deal for the player
if the player thinks that they’ll be worth more than $21.3 per year at age 36. In 2016 dollars.
Being a Boras client, they may both agree. Boras will shop him around that point as the guy to break ARod’s all time HR record, and try to get 4/150.
The Yankees get Sabathia, the Mets get K-rod, and the Orioles get Ryan Freel.

nothing new there
the dude says the yankees have had “serious conversations with Boras”….those conversations happened a while ago. he says, “an offer may come soon.” yeah, it may, but then again it may not.
it’s just another BS speculation article by a journalist who has nothing else to write. most accounts say that the yankees can’t tie up that much money in tex, and that they know boras is using them precisely to get a bidding war going. i don’t expect we’ll see any real activit with the yankees. then again, I might be wrong.

More
the more I hear about this thing, the less I want the Os to sign him. The money just sounds more and more insane.

8th year why not
but for Tex this is the better deal, maybe give him an out after 4, and the O’s an out after 5 or 6. I also wonder if there is a no trade or limited trade in there somewhere. Something this big needs protection both ways, we could have another Belle issue with that contract

you could have another Belle issue with any contract

That's always a risk
To use a NHL analogy…You could end up with Alex Ovechkin’s production or Rick DiPietro’s injuries.

I think the O's would
like Tex to come to them and ask them to raise their offer and then sign. If he doesnt then he really doesnt want to play here does he?

LA Times today ..
Had a story about this — it was Angel-centric of course, playing on the perceived two-way battle between Angels and Red Sox, both of whom now seem to have said they are out of it. The article mentioned that the Nationals are also bidding, no mention at all of the O’s!
When you get to this much money, doesn’t it all really come down to where he would rather play? Any of the offers make him rich for life. I’m not a big fan of the Orioles going after big free agents at this stage of their development, but I do think Teixeira is a special case — local boy and all. And he is still young enough to still be in his prime in a few years when they maybe/hopefully contend.

i agree...
lets all take a deep breath and let Andy do his job. i’m pretty confident of his judgement thus far – but whether we get Tex or not, i’ll be happy knowing the outcome is best for the organization in the long term.
