Markakis Extension Update Part 2
Baltimore Sun - Contract-extension talks between the Orioles and their star right fielder Nick Markakis have broken off and likely will not be revisited for at least six weeks.
Both club president Andy MacPhail and Markakis' agent, Jamie Murphy, confirmed that the sides exchanged proposals last week for the first time this offseason and, after several discussions, an agreement could not be reached.
"I wouldn't say [it's been] tiring, but it's been a long, drawn-out process," Markakis said by phone Tuesday. "It just goes back and forth. For the most part, like I've said 1,000 times, you want to come to something that is comfortable for both sides something good for the Orioles and something good for myself and my family."
I don't like this. We should of locked him up already!!!!

I don't think any of us here will rest until...
Nick Markakis is signed long term. This issue keeps popping up and causing panic in Birdland.
I am sick of hearing about other young star players getting long term extensions from their teams…meanwhile, Nick is making the eqivalent of chicken scratch in comparison. Adam “Blue Jay” Loewen made more than Nick last year, I mean WTF?? I don’t blame him for being upset if this deal doesn’t get done soon, he deserves the money now, not when the Orioles see it as convenient. Get it done, Andy!!

The last thing I want to see is Nick walking in a few years. He has the potential to have his # 21 sitting out with Earl’s, Brooks’, Frank’s, Jim’s, Eddie’s and Cal’s.
Andy — do the right thing. Or — it will be your fault.
PLEASE -- JUST PLEASE THROW STRIKES.

I don't
As fatalistic as I am about Wieters, I really do think Markakis gets done.

He does have the Tex feel
already and its Boras SOP to not sign early.
But you know the most fragile players in the world after pitchers are catchers so it may change some of the thinking. Still Matt has to produce first before I worry about this.

Why
because he wants to negotiate toughly? Wow, unique concept.
So if Andy has already decided he is going to let him walk these should be some interesting arbitration cases the next three years.

Gotta go with Duck here
The organization is really promoting Markakis as the face of the franchise. I can’t see building him up like this if there are no plans to resign him.
