Brady Anderson in 1996 - Most well-rounded season ever?
http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/the-george-grantham-all-stars/
This dude at the Hardball Times (I found this via the wonderful Shysterball) took a concept that Bill James came up with whereby you look for players who were above-average for their careers in thirteen offensive statistics. Only Mr. Willie Mays and a guy named George Grantham met the requirements.
This other dude decided to look at it on a by-season basis. The results may surprise you. Or not, since I just gave them away. Whoops.

Frank Robinson called
He wanted to remind you of the year 1966.

Not according to the article
The article finds someone who exceeds the average in AVG, SLG, OBP, doubles per PA, triples per PA, home runs per PA, runs per PA, stolen bases per, HBP per PA, sacrifice hits per PA, walks per PA, strikeouts per PA, and GIDP per PA. Frank’s season didn’t make the cut. Doesn’t mean anything, really, except that Brady was more proficient and stealing bases and getting hit by pitches (his specialty).

I'll still take Frank's '66 year
He may not be warm and fuzzy, but he’s still one of my favorite O’s, along with Kiko Garcia and Joe Orsulak. And Eddie Murray.

I understand
but what myself (and duck) were getting at is that we would take Frank’s ‘66 over Brady’s ’96

again I say
who wouldn’t? This guy’s “most well rounded” doesn’t equal “most valuable.” It’s just a funny examination of statistics. It’s not rating Brady’s 96 season as one of the best in history.

yes, Stacey gets it
I assume it was you who promoted it, too?

after getting hit by the bus on his rollerblades
I guess he didn’t really care about getting hit by pitches. Besides, he had the love of many a good Bawllmer woman to sustain him. And his special sideburn powers.
God. He was so 90’s.
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."

What always puzzled me about that one was...
what was the hubcap doing INSIDE the trailer?

One of Tonya's arrest
was for beating the snot out of her boyfriend with a hubcap while they were still in her trailer. Which begs the question….
what was the hubcap doing INSIDE the trailer?

BRADY ANDERSON
My Favorite Oriole of All-Time!

Probably my favorite too from those teams in the 90's
He had sideburns and was from Silver Spring. How cool is that?
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

The year that Brady finally
broke through I remember him hitting ground balls down the line into the corner and you saw that acceleration through second and his legs were like pistons as he beat the throw for a triple.
Only a team as bad as the O’s would have had the patience to wait for Brady-which is why guys like Pie are worth taking chances on. Its why teams give up on a Jeremy Guthrie or Brandon Phillips.
They cant wait anymore.

me too!
That was when I was growing up and getting into baseball and Brady is one of my favorites. Shoot, I even thought his sideburns were awesome!

Say what you want
But as many names as have been aired by the Mitchell Report, et. al., there’s nothing concrete on Brady. Does that mean he didn’t use? Not necessarily. He could’ve had a more discreet dealer. But no one knows for sure. Hell, Davey Johnson hit 43 home runs with the Braves one year.

bing
Jim Palmer can gab all he wants about Brady on steroids and so can everyone else, and fuck it he probably was like everyone else in baseball and dabbled at the least, but nobody has come up with anything real about it, so enough already.
