New Blog: Sounder At Heart for Seattle Sounders Fans!

Asked by a member of the Japanese media whether Orioles fans were ready for a pitcher from the Far East, MacPhail said: "I think Baltimore fans are ready for pitchers who get people out."

Well played, Andy

Pretty decent update on the offseason by Zriebec, as well.

Great answer

To a stupid question.

No doubt. Stupid questions don’t always get stupid answers. Sometimes they get snarky or snide ones, too.

I don't even really understand the question

They look different! And don't speak the language!

Wasn’t it just a couple of years ago that our Opening Day rotation had a Canadian, a Panamanian, a Mexican, a Dominican, and a Kris Benson? Um, baseball’s a melting pot. Maybe I’m out of touch with my hometown, but I didn’t think we were a bunch of bitter frightened racists or anything.

Or are we supposed to distrust the Japanese because of Pearl Harbor? Who asked that question, Furman Bisher?

Now that I actually READ the article

Apparently the question came from a Japenese reporter. Perhaps something got lost in translation…still an odd question. But it wouldn’t be surprising if most Japanese didn’t know much about Baltimore.

I think

It’s like when people ask if America is “ready” for a female president, a non-white president, etc. It’s a stupid question. But people ask it.

You know how happy I would be

if we got someone like Uehara, even if I can’t spell his name yet. It would just show how much improvement we’ve made at getting players from every possible source.
