Camdent Chat Mentioned on MLBTraderumors.com

I know people aren't keen on mlbtraderumors.com or any mention of them on this site, but I thought this would a nice bit.  They've mentioned a thread about a Roberts deal to the Cubs in their list of Baseball Blogs Weigh In segment.

Kind of neat publicity.

Star-divide

Where are your thoughts on this trade now that Cintron has been signed by the Cubs to a minor league deal?

Personally, I'm all about trading Roberts now and investing in the future if the Os get some talent back, specifically middle infield talent, in the trade but I just don't see that happening if the Os get Cedeno in a package.  Are there any other teams, outside of the Rockies and Dodgers, who might be viable options for a three-way deal?

Juan Uribe?  <shutter>

Keep BRob till the deadline
He's not disgruntled about rebuilding and has publicly expressed an interest in being the veteran guy that guides the rookies.  I realize that the comment comes from his "nice guy" team-player side, but it's nice to see that he is diplomatic enough to understand that being publicly disgruntled really doesn't help anyone.

So let's keep him until the trade deadline and see what happens.  If he continues to be the BRob we all know and love, he'll just just as valuable, if not more so, and MacPhail can strongarm some team into giving up some nice guys.

except not.
Actually, it sounds like he is disgruntled about rebuilding.

Specifically, per the Sun:

He was low-key, sarcastic and even defensive at times. With Erik Bedard and Miguel Tejada having already been traded and rumors of a potential deal with the Cubs swirling, Roberts wouldn't say definitively that he wanted to be the latest Orioles veteran sent out of town. However, he also made it clear he doesn't want to be part of a rebuilding process.

"I would never call this organization and say, 'I want to be traded. I need to be traded,'" Roberts said. "I signed a contract. I signed a deal. I understand when I make a commitment, that's what I'm here for. But as I said earlier, you want to win. ... For this organization, if it's better to send me to another place and get a couple of pieces for down the road, I understand that, too. The sooner the chance I get to win, the better off."

MLB Trade Rumors
They throw every POS rumor at the wall and see what sticks. That's the only "problem" I have with it -- people quote them like they're a news source. They're not.

But I applaud them for their overall effort and commitment to what they do. Here's the awful, nasty truth about ESPN Insider, for those that have never subscribed: They make you pay for what MLB Trade Rumors gives you for free. They cull newspapers and print every single possible rumor that floats, be it from a source or somebody's ass.

Don't ever pay for ESPN Insider for baseball trade rumor info. There are lots of good reasons TO pay for Insider, but not that. It's out there for free.

Roberts Admits Guilt
I don't know if this has been discussed or is even an issue, but Roberts (and Gibbons) addressed the team and admitted they took steroids.

Gibbons:
"I blame myself," Gibbons added. "It's definitely something that's out of character. I took a shortcut and I'm paying the price with the 15 days."

Wow, I feel sorry for him.  Fifteen whole days?

What a fucking joke.

Thankfully
we only have one good one to keep track of.

It is actually true
This is the best Orioles blog on the internet by far.  Cubs fans could choose from 3-5 quality blogs.  Baltimore only really has boards.baltimoreravens.com as a football forum too.  Kind of sad.
MVP.

That's not really true
I think this is the best blog of this format because it's so conducive to participation. It's like a combination blog and message board. But as far as straight blogs, there are several really good ones. I really enjoy both Roar from 34, Oriole Magic, and Oriole Post. I mean, there will never be as many as Cubs blogs, but at least when you find an O's site the people running it are more likely to be hard core and knowledgable. At least, I'd assume.

Ouch
Not that I really wanted Cintron, but didn't we offer him a major league deal? So he turned us down for a minor league deal with the Cubs?

That's harsh.

Nope
Os also offered a minor league deal.

That's a relief. Makes me have a little more faith in Andy.

Bartolo Colon
was just signed by the White Sox pending a physical. I hope they enjoy seeing their pitchers throw fastballs in the 80s.

it's not a bad gamble
I mean, the White Sox suck and trade Jon Garland for Orlando fucking Cabrera, which I still do not get, and now Colon and Cabrera can be on the same team again for the third time!

The Nationals
could have had Grady Sizemore and Brandon Phillips in their lineup if they hadn't traded for a third of a season of big Bartolo. For that, I'm thankful of Omar Minaya, who I never thought was that great of a GM. I still don't know what the hell to make of Kenny Williams. They have every reason to rebuild, but aren't because they wanted to sign Buerhle to an extension and give him a winning club, instead of getting good value at the deadline for him.

Minaya
I've never dug the Minaya hoopla.  He recevied a lot help from inheriting Wright and Reyes and signing good free agents during a depressed economic era (e.g. Wagner, Beltran).  Trading Brian Bannister and Health Bell wasn't particularly smart.  The Benson and Santana trades though were pretty good moves on his part.

Do you have to be a genius
to know to trade for Johan Snatana.

No
But it takes some skill to get Santana w/o giving up your best prospect.

by birdman on Feb 20, 2008 5:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

well
I don't really blame Minaya for that. He was making a one-ditch effort to make the playoffs with what would have amounted to a miracle team. They had no future, he wasn't going to hold the GM spot once the team sold, probably, and he did the best he could and actually tried to win with a team that had been given a death sentence.

That he was still a FA???  Hmmm if this is true..

Your right
Where did I get it from: MLBtraderumors, the New York Daily News of the Internet. Omar Minaya still isn't that great of a gm.
