Around SBN: SB Nation NFL Power Rankings for Week 11

Ahh, 2005...

There's a really funny ESPN.com Page 2 article about the pros and cons for every team in signing Barry Bonds.  And of course, the quip for the Orioles is:

Pro: Bonds would be a sure bet to be team's sole All-Star Game representative.
Con: He would remind fans of the 2005 media guide cover.

Buh-dum-ching

But the best part is the accompanying scan of the 2005 media guide:

I mean, hindsight is 20/20 and all, but look at that assemblage of meatheads!  No wonder even the batboy was huffing steroids in the O's locker room in 2005.

/turns on selective memory

I did really enjoy that season, though...especially early on, when B-Rob was cranking all those dingers, and we were in first place at the All-Star break.

re:
I read that and my first thought was "no one knows about Markakis, expect for maybe some fantasy players". On the other hand, that's precisely why the above statement is accurate.

Markakis and Roberts
Was Roberts traded and I not hear about it?  Markakis might be something of a secret now, but he's one of the top few RFers in the game under 25.  I think he'll be a fantastic #3 hitter for years to come.

ESPN is pretty lazy in their shots at the Orioles.  Most of the shots are deserved, but snubbing Markakis and Roberts just to be funny is too easy.

That's some sad shit...
...and what's even worse is that was the last time I actually felt good about the team.

Looking at that media guide...
...is like getting kicked in the nuts.

God, that season was such a ridiculous mess.

Those were the days.
I had a business trip to Boston that year & their sports radio was all over our jocks.
Better, I was in a bar wearing my O's hat & the other patrons were actually worried that we'd finally gotten our sh*t together in Baltimore.  It was the first time since 1997 I'd been able to win a "who's better" argument by using "scoreboard".

Then I came home, the All-Star Break ended, and the entire season went to hell in a handbasket strapped to a rocket fuselage.  Thanks for the memories, Orioles.
