BUH DARD Update: Tomorrow. Maybe. (He's in Seattle.)

The Sun has the scoop -- E.B. has left Ontario for Seattle, and his physical may or may not have actually taken place (in whole or in part) today.

An announcement may or may not be coming tomorrow.

But this is the final hula hoop.

E.B. was left out! E.B. was left out!

But this is the final hula hoop.

So, every other team in every sport announces trades, pending physicals.  But the Orioles are like 'fuck dat'.

to keep up with the slow-trade theme...
they chose a flight with 10 stop-overs on the way to seattle... he's delayed at OHare

bedard in si
if anyone is interested, there is a really really good article about bedard in this weeks sports illustrated. . just talks about what a decent guy he is and how he is turning out to be one of the better talents in the game. i know we need to rebuild but it still sucks to lose him, he was one of the good guys and someone i really enjoyed cheering for as an o. anyways, its a good read if anyone is interested.

I thought
they were going to come back with a 2 hour episode to go ahead an end the series...no?  One of my favorites.  Rome was good too.

i liked rome a lot...
titus pullo might be one of the best characters of the decades...up there w/ swearengen and omar!
So, I said, uh, lama: how about a little something for the effort?

The interactions between
Vorenus, the solid family man, and Pullo are absolutely priceless. I'm watching season 1 right now.

I got hooked on Deadwood last year
when I got season one.  My wife also.  You should hear her repeat cocksucker (w/ a Korean accent) whenever we watch the show.  This from a woman who never swears.  Get's a kick out of it.

I picked up seasons 2 and 3 this year.

I also started watching Rome.  I'm just as hooked.  I only wish they'd do some more scenes like the first episode.  That was perhaps the best demonstration of Roman tactics I've ever seen.  I love when someone takes the time to get things historically corect to that level of detail.

I heard that too.

I keep hearing that...
but every official info tidbit I can drum up suggests the show is just dead. One of my favorites, though, I own all three box sets....and I never buy box sets.

I hope they wrapped...
...his fragile, surly arse in bubble wrap on the plane. Or at least his left arm. And his obliques.

If this trade somehow hiccups at the last moment, I may finally snap and charge into the Warehouse with an axe.

Not making any specific reports, just sayin', if you see a headline reading "Kilted Man Assaults Orioles HQ with Bladed Weapons," it was probably me.

Recent Report From The Sun
"The physical is expected to extend into Friday, meaning it's possible that the trade, which will send young center fielder Adam Jones, reliever George Sherrill and three pitching prospects to Baltimore, might not be announced until Saturday."

God this thing just won't end!!!!!

This is the only thing I like about the NBA
Not to get sidetracked, but if Shaq gets traded for Shawn Marion in less than 24 hours, why does it have to take close to two weeks to nail this down?

The speed of this trade reminds me of
one of my favorite Far Side cartoons: a dead cowboy lies on the street across from some vaguely furry-looking animal holding a pistol. A second cowboy says to another bystander, "Well, the sloth got him. Bob never was much of a fast draw."
Forget it, Jake. It's Birdland.

People just make shit up, I swear
Look at this quote from the Ottawa Citizen:

"The left-hander was expected to undergo a physical yesterday, with the much-anticipated five-for-one trade to Seattle probably announced today. After formal introductions, it's expected his agent will immediately begin negotiations on the long-term contract Bédard was never able to get in Baltimore."

Really? You think his agent will immediately begin long-term negotiations? The "long term contract [he] was never able to get in Baltimore?"

Dude, skip your paycheck this week.

  1. His agent refused to discuss a long-term contract in Baltimore, stating Bédard wanted to test the free agent market.
  2. His agent may well say the same thing in Seattle. It's harldy a lock that surly Érik will sign on the dotted line without spending at least a half season figuring out if he likes the new place.
Sportswriters just love to pile onto Charm CIty, don't they? And by "sportswriters", I mean "hacks".

That's pretty infuriating...
...but I'm just going to assume that living in Ottawa is punishment enough for that hack loser. Unless he's too stupid to realize what kind of Purgatory he lives in.

accent?
Bedard is s'posed to have an accent on the "e" in his name.  Is this why he hates the media?

Playoffs
The Hardball Times is hyping their annual right now. They mention one feature where they try to figure out the likelihood of teams making the playoffs. Without naming any specific teams, they say:

---------------------------------------
Almost everyone has a chance

In one feature of the Season Preview, we simulated the 2008 season 100 times to try to predict how it will play out. Our projected standings not only give each team's predicted win total, but also its probability of making the playoffs. With the caveat that we ran the numbers before the Santana trade, only four teams missed the playoffs in all 100 simulations.
------------------------------------------

Hmmm...odds on the O's as one of those 4 teams?

RE:
Assuming they included the Bedard deal; 100%.  If they didn't include the Bedard deal; 100%.

Assuming we trade Bedard and keep Roberts; we'll have 2 players you can realistically expect to be above average for their position/role.

re:
So does anyone still think Roberts will be gone by spring training? Take this Bedard trade and magnify the ridiculousness an order higher for the circus that will be a Roberts trade. The old man is way more vested in his boy B-Rob.

re:
I would agree; unless the reason this deal has been so slow was that they were also working out a deal to flip Sherrill to the Cubs.  I doubt it though; Angelos has a serious man-crush on Brian.

I would prefer that they deal Brob; but the Bedard deal was far more neccesary in my opinion.

I don't know about by ST,
but he will be gone. No point in having him with the rebuilding eam, he has stated he doesn't want to be part of a total rebuild, I think he will say as much to PA, and PA will respect it.

Plus, if MacPhail finds a good deal for him and PA vetoes, then I think MacPhail will walk.

Roberts
He's gone.  MacPhails wants to trade him.  Angelos will only veto it if the proposed deal is just AWFUL.
