It's Done!
Rosenthal is reporting on Fox Sports that it's complete:
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7777230/After-long-process,-M's-finally-nab-Bedard
Same package that we've heard forever, Jones, Sherrill, Tillman, Butler and Mickolio.
Bout friggin time; now lets see what we can do with Roberts. If they start now, they should have something worked out by the trading deadline.

(Ed note: There has been no official announcement yet. Rosenthal cites "a major league source" who told him the Seattle players in the deal have been notified that the trade is complete. Confirmation from the Orioles' end, particularly by MacPhail, would be nice. -zk 3:02pm EDT)
UPDATES:
Confirmed by Zrebiec at the Sun, although he does not cite any sources...Now also confirmed at the official site: Bedard era over in Baltimore
UPDATE #2:Érik gives an exclusive quote to SI.com, probably because of the story they just did on him...
"It seems like a great situation for me," Bedard told SI.com. "They're a winning team and they're not in a rebuilding stage. King Felix [Hernandez] and I should be able to do some things at the top of the rotation." Bedard will be introduced at a 5 p.m. ET press conference in Seattle.FanPosts are user-created content and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Camden Chat or SB Nation. They might, though.

Yee-HAW!
Or settle for Murton in LF & move Scott to 1B, just so long as we get Gallagher in the deal.

some of his comments
He can't believe how many of the fans support trading Erik, just goes to show how desperate everyone is to be good in the long run.
He approached Erik's agent early in the offseason to talk about an extension and the agent was "polite" but he could tell they had no interest in signing an extension.
Because of the nature of the team, it's very important to get as many players as possible because there is just so much that needs to be done. That's why this trade took so long because he wasn't willing to settle for 3 for 1.
Also he's trying his damndest to hold back a very self satisfied smirk, but it's getting through every now and again.

high upside guys
They're also all fucking huge. If those three guys -- in some perfect world -- all panned out, and Loewen and Cabrera stayed in the rotation long enough, we'd be looking at this:
Cabrera: 6'7"-6'9", depending on what bullshit about him continuing to grow at his age you believe
Loewen: 6'5"
Tillman: 6'5"
Mickolio: 6'9" (also goes 250ish)
Butler: 6'7"

Gone but not forgotten...

My thoughts
All I could really hope for was three top prospects and Jones and Tillman are two. If we could net one nice prospect for Sherrill, I'd be quite pleased. As it is, I give the returns for Bedard and Tejada a B, cuz I don't get this desire for quantity. We have quantity, and not much of it is good. Has that dramatically changed?
I'm just glad this is over though. Had this not dragged on, I'd be much more sad about losing a truly special pitcher. But you have to like that we sold high for once.

Congratulations!
No, my favorite player isn't Adam Jones. I've a tendency to root for underdogs, myself, and have grown a special attachment to George Sherrill. As the founder of the "Free George Sherrill" campaign, I'll let you know that you're receiving one of the better RPs in the game. Just because the M's pigeonholed him into the "LOOGY" role doesn't mean that he's not closer material. He closed several games in AAA, and I've been following him since just after the Mariners signed him out of the Independent League. He knows how to get people out.
His splits are indeed a bit deceiving because the M's limited him to the lefty specialist role, thereby reducing the numbers of RH batters he faced (and the sample size of his numbers). But, again, when given the opportunity to pitch consistently to hitters from both sides of the plate, he's very effective. He's not really a power pitcher (throws low-90s consistently), but his deception is a huge asset vs. lefties, and his off-speed stuff is very effective against righties.
The Mariners are definitely going to miss George more than they realize now. I really hope you'll welcome him w/open arms, and don't be afraid if he comes in to close games out. Also, be forewarned about his terrible spring trainings. His pitches likely will break better in the Grapefruit league than they did in AZ, but just because he has a terrible spring doesn't mean he can't come in right away and be a reliable pitcher in the late innings.
Having met him several times (and being sort of adopted into his family a bit), he's a fantastic person who works his tail off. A bulldog type who's been around the block fighting some pretty tough battles to get where he's at.
Yeah, he's probably not the centerpiece that Jones is in this trade. However, he's a fantastic pitcher and he'll do his darndest for ya. He'll have no problem with Ortiz, Pena, and Giambi. And he generally handles Manny well, too...
Unless, of course, McPhail does indeed flip him to Atlanta for Lillibridge...
//LookoutLanding inside joke
If George's brother Sid happens to sign up 'round here -- be sure to flip him crap for me :-)
Oh, and I've got pictures of George and AJ over at my photography site (I shoot minor league games for fun, and always have my camera at the MLB park, too).
