Loewen likely to miss start with sore shoulder

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-osnotes311,0,6913567.story

kids, this is no damn good.  pitchers with elbow problems often over-compensate and develop shoulder problems as they alter their motions to try to alleviate the pain or "pitch through it".  if Loewen is hurt and not just sore, this could go from a 90 loss team to 100 losses really damn quick.

Let's hope the O's are right and this is not unexpected. I don't yet believe the Orioles when they speak. MacPhail seems to give us the straight dope, but there is a history of rushing players and over hyping them.

Loewen has done not much more than battle injuries. It's just not a good sign.

Moving on, Liz has poor mechanics. He's another one to watch for injuries. I cringed a bit watching him during his callup last year.

Someone on the staff has to stay healthy and pitch in the future.

This is Birdland

grant of salt...
but apparently, liz's big assignment in winter ball was to work on his mechanics and he's supposedly gotten quite a bit ironed out.  hard to say w/o actually seeing him, but he HAS pitched fairly well this spring thus far.
So, I said, uh, lama: how about a little something for the effort?

Sickels's Writeup
Over at Minor League Ball, John Sickels just did a writeup on Loewen:

Not a Rookie: Adam Loewen

The scary thing about the current shoulder issues is that he was shut down in 2004 with a labrum injury. He recovered without surgery, which is good, but it means that it's always lurking in the background.
