Community Projection '08: The Two Jays, Luis Luis and Moore, Moore, Moore!

There's still one more hitter to go after this group, but let's jumble a bunch of them together and get them out of the way. Nobody is terribly excited about anyone in this group, I don't suspect.

With a lot of these guys, you might have to guess on the type of playing time they're going to get. Do your best. Frankly with some of them, the less, the better.

Project the line given for the player.

Contestant #1: Jay Gibbons

He is a horrible piece of crap, my least favorite Oriole, and I think I'll leave it at that. He is a drain on the team's resources, and the fact that they gave him an extension was stupid the moment they did it. Some felt differently. I did not.

Gibby's last three years:

AB AVG OBP SLG 2B HR RBI BB/K
2005 Baltimore 488 .277 .317 .516 33 26 79 28/56

2007 Baltimore 270 .230 .272 .348 14 6 28 15/52

Contestant #2: Jay Payton

The other idiot Jay. The minute they signed him as a free agent, I knew exactly what to expect. Crap play, whining, and all the rest of Jay Payton's notable contributions to major league baseball.

AB AVG OBP SLG 2B HR RBI BB/K

Contestant #4: Scott Moore

I know we all like Moore (or many of us do so far, anyway), but let's keep expectations realistic, huh? This is no blue chipper. However, there's no reason he can't be a decent contributor at the ML level based on his numbers.

re: do we have to?
How do you even guess the number of ABs? I'll assume Louie is the SS. It's his job to lose.

.           AB  AVG   OBP   SLG  2B  HR  RBI   BB   K

Gibbons    225 .236  .307  .345   8   4   18   10   48
Payton     380 .260  .301  .405  15   9   44   20   45
Hernandez  490 .235  .258  .245  16   2   28   16   69
Moore      350 .245  .310  .410  16  16   64   39  104

Bonus predictions
-Every few weeks, Trembley will tell us how Louie need another few weeks to acclimate and become the glove man we expect.
-Within five weeks (two of which are on suspension) Gibbons complains about his lack of playing time, which he really believes he deserves.
-Ditto for Payton.
-This year, Payton comes to blows on the field with Jones. Jones cold cocks him and becomes an instant hero.

This is Birdland

Hernandez
I'm really interested  to see how long the O's stay with him and just how bad his numbers can be...

If he can't put up a .600 OPS in AA, that means his MLB OPS should be in the .490 - .500 range (though most projections have him around .580).  And this is actually is true talent level.

So if he starts losing his confidence due to him being so terrible, how low can he go and how long would the Orioles wait to replace him?

Ooooof
We've gone from Cal Ripken to this.
