Claudio Vargas Released
Vargas was released today by the Milwaukee Brewers. Any chance the O's would want to be on the hook for his $3.8mil contract for his services? I'm not sure how many years are left on it. It seems he pitched pretty well last year but I didn't pull his career stats. Trax is stealing $3.0mil and I would think Vargas is better than he is.
By the way, I like the new format. As computer illiterate as I am I can actually link stuff now!

Vargas is 30 years old and not worth the time. They made their decision on who the veteran cog in the rotation would be. The Brewers deciding Claudio Vargas sucks (and they're right) shouldn't change what the Baltimore Orioles are doing.
Gotta go with the boss on this one.
No need for a 30-year-old never-was taking the place of Albers, Burres or Penn on the ML roster.
"Do we get some sort of prize?"
Hmm...
I know I replied earlier and I posted something on another fanpost that either disappeared or was taken down.
I don't necessarily want him to come over but Burres isn't a SP in the majors and Penn...I don't know what Penn's deal is. I'm all for giving the ball to Albers though but you never know...I mean Trax is back.

And Trax will be gone in July AGAIN
and we can get another possibly useful piece in the reconstruction of the Orioles.

I'll take
another Scott Moore.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Not really what I meant
I mean that we could get an almost major league ready player for a veteran pitcher whose barely major league calibur.

Yeah, he should be released by then. Last year was some odd miracle. I can't see him doing it two years in a row.
What happened to my Rocky Cherry pic.? I guess I need new pic.
Rocky Cherry, O's pitcher, not John C. McGinley's love child.

Even Burres might stun someone and have a really good season. Vargas has years of big league service that tell you he won't be special. He's OKish. He's not awful. He'll wind up somewhere when somebody has a hole to fill. But this ain't the team for him.
If Shawn Chacon can help the Yankees in a pennant race, there's no reason Claudio Vargas can't turn up and do it for someone, too. But the only races we're going to see are on Sundays when Jamie Walker has the remote.

Yeah
I guess I was thinking more along the lines of employing him now and flipping him mid-season to the Mets or someone like that who will overpay. I guess it's a tough chance to take on a rebuilding team with so many young arms.
